We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Tarnopolski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Giving circles are kickstarting a new era of philanthropy and having an impact on who gets funding.

A giving circle brings a group of people with shared values together to collectively discuss and decide where to make a pooled gift. Giving circles support with their dollars, but also build awareness of needs in the community. Participants go on to volunteer, become board members and more. Individuals multiply their impact and knowledge, have fun, and connect with their local community.

Giving circles are a growing global movement with more than 2,500 active circles around the world giving intentionally and thoughtfully. Giving circles are a modern form of collective giving with roots in cultures across the globe for many decades.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
100+ Women Who Care Valley of the Sun facilitates a giving circle model of philanthropy to raise funds, awareness, and exposure to Valley nonprofits. I learned about the 100 Who Care model in 2014 and knew immediately that I wanted to start a chapter in Phoenix.

10 years later, our chapter has had a tremendous impact on nonprofits in the Phoenix metro area. Little known charities are getting funded, lives are being impacted, and our members feel a significant amount of satisfaction knowing their collective giving is changing lives.

Prior to my career in philanthropy, I spent 20 years in executive human resources roles. I started my career in corporate America before moving into entrepreneurship to run my own business – a human resources consulting firm. These two decades of business experience gave me the opportunity to hone my skills in communication, accountability, relationship building, policy and process development, complex decision making and problem solving, and business management.

After making my impact in the business world, I shifted my focus and priorities to my community. When my daughter was in middle school, I discovered the need and a passion to help youth, teens and young adults maneuver the challenges of adolescence. I was actively involved with Teen Lifeline as a board and committee member for several years.

My career success can be attributed to being a community builder who excels in building rapport and attracting individuals to causes and organizations. I’m highly motivated with a successful track record of making things happen and getting things done. I’m known for quality, exceptional client service, high ethical standards, and a professional reputation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love being out in nature, especially during our winter months. I love the diversity of hiking trails in our state and would take my bestie on several hikes. Picacho Peak is one of my favorite hikes. I also own a Jeep, so we’d go explore the desert on Jeep trails. Sedona is a magical place for me, and I love showing guests the beautiful red rocks and vibrant energy that can be found in the area.

I’m a huge sports fan and believe in rooting for the home team. If there was a sporting event happening in the city while my bestie was in town, I’d take her to a game. Spring training is always a fun time to be outside, soak up the sun, and cheer for the Dbacks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The success of our giving circle chapter lies squarely on the shoulders of our members. For 10 years, our members have shown up every quarter to open their hearts and their wallets. They have supported over 100 nonprofits in the Valley of the Sun and have donated over $1.2 Million.
