Meet Kinjal Joshi | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kinjal Joshi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kinjal, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Mumbai, India and I moved here when I was thirteen years old. My up brings was in a semi tradition Indian traditional family, my parents encouraged us to to be educated, have a stable career so in the future I can provide for my own family, so I always thought being any type of artist is not a sustainable career. I never explored the artistic side of me, I went to collage and get a degree in Cardio Pulmonary Sciences to become a Respiratory Therapist. After, working as a therapist for so many years, I really wanted to explore photography which I loved. With the help of my supportive husband, I took the leap! He said it was okay to cut back on work hours and see if I wanted to explore a career in photography.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my honesty with clients, I am still a growing business and if there is is something I cannot do for a client, I am honest with them, I will wont take a contract if I cannot fulfill their expectations. I am constantly learning by taking classes and investing in better gear so I can be best at my art. I am very proud that I am able to with photography, making memories for families to last a life time. I am here only because of the support of my family, family helping me babysit my toddler, husband being kind and understanding, and everyone along the way that cheered me on when I am sad. Being a photographer in this saturated market is definitely tough, and at times I have cried, been depressed, to over come it is not easy, but having patience, having a positive mind set defiantly helps. The biggest lesson I have learned is to know when to walk away from a potential client, if they don’t see the worth investing with you, don’t bargain and just walk away. It is very tough to walk away from potential client/money, but self worth is priceless. I want the world to know that I am a wife, and a mother who loves to capture memories for their family that lasts a life time. I absolutely love what I do!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depending on what time of the year they are coming, but if my friend is coming in Winter, I would say to camp at the Lost Dutchman State park, eat in Gilbert downtown area. I love Postinos! We also love ice cream from Screamery!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people in my life that I am thankful for, my husband has been my biggest support, he is the one who guided me to start my own legal business. He bought me first camera from Costco to I can pursue my passion. I took courses by Amy and Jordan to learn a specific editing style, posing, and business course, little by little, I learned what I needed to be a professional photographer, and I am still learning how to get better at my art.
