We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I did as a parent that yielded the best impact on my children is to heal myself. Every one of us have a story. A story that created emotional wounds to our psyche. These wounds are the lens through which we think and act. When we act from our wounded self, we are unable to show up to our children in a way they need to evolve into high functioning adults. When we’re willing to introspect and recognize behavior that is negatively impacting our children and do the work to heal the root of the behavior, we grow into higher versions of ourselves. We start acting through a clearer lens. We’re more patient. We listen to understand rather than to win or overpower. We stop parenting from emotion and more from wisdom. And we seek for alternative solutions rather than staying stuck in a pattern that’s not working. But most of all, our children learn to trust us at the deepest level.

My eldest daughter (27) recently said to me, “Mama, so many of my friends have dysfunctional relationships with their parents. It not only saddens me, but it makes me so grateful to have you as my mama. If I’ve never told you, I want to thank you for working on yourself.”

…the sweetest words ever spoken to me.

If you truly want to see your children thrive and still love you in the process, the best gift you can ever give them, is your healing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from other coaches/mentors is that I walk my talk every day of my life. I only teach what I have experienced, learned and continue to learn. My knowledge and wisdom has come through experience and my own healing journey. I believe the best coaches/mentors are someone who has gone before us and prevailed. I meet my clients where they’re at and never force them to be where they are not yet. I provide a safe, non-judgmental arena to explore their personal journeys and inner worlds. My role as a coach/mentor is to help them discover their OWN next best step rather than telling them what to do. My goal is to help people trust their own knowledge, insights, intuition and spiritual guidance to make sound decisions and choices in their lives. My clients feel very understood and safe as I’m transparent and open about my personal story and history. They may enter my world as “strangers”, but they always leave as friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person I’d give the most credit to for my success is myself. As human beings, we have the freedom (free-will) to choose. We can choose to stay stuck or we can choose to grow. It’s really that simple. Wisdom and Truth is all around us. There are many amazing mentors in the world yet, it’s not enough to merely read, watch or follow them. The hero’s journey is about acting on that which resonates within us. It’s about being dedicated to our spiritual and emotional evolution. It’s about not staying stuck in victimhood, but choosing victory no matter how long it takes! I’m grateful to the spiritual warrior inside me who repeatedly picks me up, brushes me off and continues to learn, grow and evolve.
