We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyanna Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyanna, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to bring together the idea of doing something I love while making money at it. Growing up, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, I changed directions so many times. But then, I fell in love with makeup and the beauty industry at twelve years old. Even throughout my teenage years I never gave a thought about turning makeup into a career. But then when I was 22, I just got this bright idea to start building my portfolio.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My creative art is MAKEUP! I am a makeup artist, so I enjoy doing my own makeup but the excitement really comes from creating art on others and seeing their expression afterwards. I got to where I am today by dedication and hardworking but mainly sacrifice. As a mother, I wish I could spend every waking second with my son. But trying to build a name for myself in the beauty industry requires extreme focus, a lot of time and money so I am constantly working and investing. I still face great challenges each and every day but it’s all about my decision making that keeps me afloat. I’ve learned that even in a saturated industry such as beauty, you can stand out with more than a little hard work and consistency, it won’t work unless you put fourth the effort. I just want the world to know that I am constantly working on myself each and everyday to become a better me and to be able to run my business long term.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is funny because my best friend is currently living in Louisiana right now finishing up college but I know for a fact when she comes back I would probably take her to my favorite restaurant Kabuki’s, I absolutely love sushi! We have this little taco place in downtown Phoenix as well called Taco Huicho, the best tacos in Arizona if you ask me. We have been promising each other forever the we’ll start working out so I would love to get a gym membership and start getting fit. Our favorite place to go for drinks would have to be Fat Tuesday’s over in downtown Tempe on Mill Ave, very good vibe and the drinks are huge! They’re so sweet and they taste like slushies, not to mention I am in love with their hot wings.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to send a shoutout to my parents for always showing continued love and support. They’ve always been there throughout my journey on the good days and bad days. They’ve invested in me and never fail to give great business advice. Also a shoutout to my son for being my main source of motivation. Watching him grow everyday has been the highlight of my life since the day I had him. My dream is providing him best life full of fun, travels, and beautiful memories so he can go out into the world and make his own with his own family one day.
