Meet Kylie Aaron | Registered Dietitian & Lactation Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylie Aaron and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Working in community nutrition has been a wonderful experience but there’s a lot of limitations. Finding a lot of barriers to providing the best services and support possible lite in me a drive to want to start my own business. I found that working with clients and specifically new moms takes time that often I don’t have in a high paced community setting. Since starting my own business I find that I can provide more support, I’m not constrained by time and more resources to reach success.
What should our readers know about your business?
Often when people hear lactation consultant they often envision hard core breast feeders “breast is best”. My vision with More Than A Latch is very different. My goal is for mom and baby to be healthy, Mental and physical health are huge components of feeding infants.
With More Than A Latch I like to work with the whole family looking at mom and baby and their relationship. My goal is to help mom achieve her goals, provide options to ensure that my clients know Feeding doesn’t have to look a specific way. It’s often viewed as breastfeeding or formula. There’s often not many people that consider both.
There’s so much fear that’s instilled in clients I enjoy the challenge and the privilege of working with clients to find what works for them.
Of course we all hope a breastfeeding journey comes naturally but often it doesn’t. Many moms face hardships from the start with complicated labors, babies born early, NICU stays, preterm deliveries, low muscle tone, tongue ties, sleepiness, poor weight gain, colic, GI issues and so much more can impact a breastfeeding journey. Learning how to roll with the punches and explore all options to find what works best for each family is very important to me.
At More Than A Latch I like to help moms find confidence in feeding and support their nutrition along with babies.
I enjoy relating to moms as well as I’m a new mom myself. My daughter was born a month early, and we had a lot of complications with breastfeeding. Personally we combo feed using breast milk and formula. I fully understand that everyone’s journey is uniquely their own and want moms to feel empowered to feeding confidently.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, I used to live in down town Phoenix and love so many places down there! When friends come to town we often made a stop at Lux coffee, enjoyed a few meals at Angles trumpet, Cibos or Cornish Pasty. An evening out often entails Bitter & Twisted, Undertow, The Duce, Cooper Blue and Valley Bar. For activities we often take friends on a hike at South Mountain, a sporting event and the gilbert farmers
Market.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many wonderful people that have helped me get to this place. First my wonderful husband, helped my pursue my dreams with going back to school, getting through brutal testing process and career changes. He has been a huge encouragement. My experience working at WIC has helped me so much. I’ve learned from amazing and talented wonderful Intake staff, nutrition assistants, fellow dietitians and admins. Each of them have influenced me for the better pushing me to provide the best support for people in our community. There are other people as well which I owe so much too that I’m so thankful for.
