We had the good fortune of connecting with Lacey Konjevich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lacey, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Most of us have heard the saying, “plants make people happy”… and they truly do. There’s something to be said for having a burst of green in your vicinity. Nurturing a plant that is bright and alive is so fulfilling. That feeling, is a motivating factor in wanting to pay it forward and give the gift of plants to others! I am here to help people be successful in accomplishing just that. Not to mention, NASA’s rule of thumb is one air purifying plant for every 100 square feet of living space. So my business is here not only to be fun and pleasing to the eyes but to promote better health by improving air quality and removing toxins naturally!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets Plants by Pony apart from the others is my handbuilt pottery. Each vessel is hand sculpted, dried, fired and glazed in my home studio. No two pots are alike, from southwest landscapes and ocean creatures to Van Gogh and Warhol. Inspiration is everywhere and each planter is a Labor of love from me to you! My other favorite thing to do is propagate. I am in awe of the design within each leaf and stem, from house plants to succulents. Being there to assist nature in taking it’s course is so thrilling. The greatest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that you can’t rush the process! The roots will sprout once they have drank enough water and had enough sun… and I have lost many pots in the kiln that have exploded because I didn’t let them dry on the rack long enough. I’ll never forget my humble beginning of selling to my friends and family on social media to Saturday popup markets and finally a permanent boutique space. I’m so grateful for this journey of becoming an entrepreneur so that I can ultimately focus on being a mom and spending more time in volunteer activities.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As an Arizona native, born and raised I have definitely come to know and love the local scene. Some of my favorite things to do are explore the Botanical Gardens, hike Camelback Mountain and wander the streets of Old Town Scottsdale. For shopping: The Merchantile and Painted Tree Boutiques are wonderful places that celebrate local artisans. I would suggest eating at Matt’s big breakfast, Arcadia farms and Vincent’s on Camelback which are all local institutions. I would also stay at the Hotel Valley Ho and take the Frank Lloyd Wright tour out at Taliesin West for some incredible history and views! As far as the night life goes: Cobra Arcade Bar, Undertow and Melinda’s Alley are not to be missed!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my son Max, my parents, my aunt and my friends who tirelessly continue to support me!
