We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Albers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I have developed so many habits over the years of being an entrepreneur that has helped me succeed. The habits that help me the most are the ones that really allow me to step into the CEO role in my business instead of trying to do everything myself. For starters, I stopped doing annual planning in January and instead create specific, focused quarterly goals. I set two primary goals each quarter, one that will grow my business and one that will help automate or run my business more smoothly. I also invest time each week to have a Weekly Accountability Meeting (WAM; concept is from the book, “The 12 Week Year” by Brian Moran) with myself to check in on my top 3 goals: revenue generation, list building, and self-care. I use that as a time to celebrate my wins and get curious (instead of critical) about any steps or to-dos that I didn’t complete so I know what I need to change or pivot. I also schedule 2 non-negotiable CEO days each month to focus on strategic planning and my bigger business vision. Lastly, I meet with my business operations manager weekly to focus on strategies, implementation, and delegation.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a mindset, productivity, and business coach for health and wellness coaches. What sets me apart is not only the business training and experience, but I am also a master certified wellness coach (so I truly get my ideal clients) and I’ve been a licensed mental health therapist for nearly 20 years (so I also have a deep understanding of mindset and human psychology). I combine all of these areas of expertise to fully support my clients in both their business and emotional life.

While I have absolutely found my passion and calling as a business coach for health coaches, I did not always have this clarity and focus. I started my business, Albers Mind & Body Wellness in 2017 with five different niches-FIVE!-which led to confusion, overwhelm, and burnout, not to mention lackluster income. That led me to learn everything I possibly could about business, marketing, sales, and copywriting…and I fell in love!

I hired my first business coach at the start of Covid and that one investment completely changed my business. I found my niche in business coaching and working specifically with health coaches, as I didn’t want them to struggle the way I did in my business those first 2 years (prior to investing in coaching).

That’s probably the biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way: that you MUST invest in yourself and your business to grow and scale it and truly make the impact and income you desire. Most of my coaching clients come to me before they’ve even completed their health coaching certification yet and really don’t have the income to invest. And I totally get it! I felt that way too in the beginning days of my business, and it took over 2 years to make my first investment. I estimate I left at least $100,000 on the table though by NOT investing! I’ve experienced such immense growth by investing in myself and my business that I will likely always be in some kind of business program, mastermind, or hire a business coach.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I split time between two Saints: St. Louis, Missouri, and St. Martin in the Caribbean, so I’ll give a little shoutout to both!

In St. Louis, I’d take friends to the famous Arch, Union Station, Forest Park, and of course, we’d have to take in a Cardinals baseball game!! We’d also have to do a brewery tour of Anheuser-Busch, Schlafly, Urban Chestnut, and 4 Hands Brewing Co.

In St. Martin, we’d be doing all things outdoors with beautiful always 85 degrees weather. We’d go on a sunset dinner cruise, snorkel at the beach, ride the world’s steepest zipline, hike at Loterie Farm, and enjoy an amazing French dinner in Grand Case.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a few shoutouts to those who helped me achieve success in my business! The first is to my parents who have been entrepreneurs in some fashion my whole life and who included me in the learning process. The second is to my husband, Jim, who’s also an entrepreneur and who’s always supported me and encouraged me to go for my dreams. Lastly, I’d like to give thanks to Suzanne Monroe, and The International Association of Wellness Professionals, with whom I not only earned my master wellness coaching certification but who I still consult with and provide coaching support to their certification students now 6 years and counting later.
