We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Lisauskas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Ten years ago, I started working on my skincare line while juggling a senior interior designer job at an architecture firm and taking care of my 6-month-old son. Life with three kids was hectic; doing everything at once isn’t for everybody, but I like keeping myself busy. Making it all work was possible thanks to the hands-on help from my husband and other family members, both logistically and financially.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Managing two distinct businesses is an adventure in itself, and it might have been considered unconventional a decade ago. Interestingly, both the landscape and skincare ventures share a common theme – a profound appreciation for plants. Their beauty and medicinal properties continue to inspire me, fueling the development of new ideas and offerings to cater to the needs of my customers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would bring my friend to Two Bunch Palms Resort in Palm Springs for a few days of immersing ourselves in the natural spring waters. Unlike other places, that spring source is odor-free making them so much more enjoyable. Being a dedicated food enthusiast who values healthy meals, I appreciate the exceptionally creative and delicious offerings at the resort’s restaurant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Working at larger firms in my twenties was crucial for gaining insights into business. I dedicated time and effort without putting my own goals first. Collaborating on projects with a team provided invaluable experience, and I believe it’s one of the most important learning opportunities for young people today. During this time, I had the chance to meet seasoned professionals in the industry, actively engage in creative boardroom meetings, and contribute to amazing projects that seemed larger than life. This experience ultimately empowered me to venture into my own business when the timing felt right.
