We had the good fortune of connecting with Lidia Win and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lidia, why did you pursue a creative career?
During my time in college I worked as a makeup artist on the weekends to make extra money. My parents are traditional Vietnamese immigrants so I wasn’t allowed to get a clock in job in order to focus on my studies. When I graduated it was either grad school or get a job and I simply did not want to pursue what I studied which was Biochemistry, so I decided to try making a living doing makeup full time. 11 years later I am still doing makeup full time.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own Bridal4theWin which is a on location makeup & hair team. We are a team of 10+ and serve all over the valley. At Bridal4theWin we always strive to make our brides feel and look their best on the their special day. We go through great lengths to exceed our brides’ expectations
I started Bridal4theWin as an independent solo artist in 2015 shortly after with marketing I started booking double & triple booking myself in one day. It got to the point were I simply needed help. Eventually I built a team who I trained and thats how we came to be!
Something I’ve learned along the way as a makeup artist is to never take anything personal. When I first started I would get so hung up if someone didn’t like my style of makeup or hair but ultimately you just have to understand that not every client is for you. Be confident in who you are as an artist and your skill set and always continue to improve them!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my go to restaurants in Arizona is Jin Shabu in Mesa. It’s all you can eat shabu and its affordable while being delicious!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe my success in the makeup industry to Holli Chris- she showed me that it is possible to make a living full time as a makeup artist. Also, I would not be anything without fabulous my team, friends, parents and wonderful clients!
