We had the good fortune of connecting with Lillie Grace and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lillie, what inspires you?
I have always seen the beauty in odd or non conventionally “beautiful” things. I find a ton of inspiration from natural things and distressed things. I pull a lot of inspiration from my own life and experiences. I grew up pretty isolated and had a lot of time to think and explore myself and my imagination. I’ve had a lot of grief in my life which I translate into my art. My paintings represent a mangled remaining piece of a face hanging by a black and white string representing “hanging by a string” and some have black and white tentacles representing the feeling of being viewed as odd or strange.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have battled depression and severe anxiety my whole life which made me question my ability and self worth. It was hard to find my art style for the longest time. I always had visions in my head but was too afraid to express it or didn’t know how to. I’m very glad I have grown to overcome those challenges. The only person who is standing in your way is truly yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have a few hiking spots that are pretty hidden and that is where I find peace. I love to sit in places that are quiet where you can just reflect. Also LOVE vintage/antique stores! You can find me roaming the aisles of the brass armadillo!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was raised by my mom and we spent a lot of time together in my childhood. She always supported my creativity. The only art classes I ever took were with an amazing women named Carrie Curran. My father gave me a lot of inspiration from a young age since he is a jewelry designer.
