We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Focusing on my definition of success rather than what social influences have defined for me. I worked for an amazing company for many years and by all accounts “made it” financially, but too many other areas of my life took a back seat; my family, my creativity, and my own sanity. I grew up in poverty, at times not knowing where I would sleep or where my next meal would come from, so the security of a full fridge and warm bed slowly turned into needing (or should I say wanting) more, and more, and more. To compensate for that need I worked harder, hustled longer, earned extra, only to be left surrounded by “stuff” that collected dust and a family that I barely knew anymore. I tell myself daily that when you come from nothing and turn your life into something, the fear of “losing it all” is amplified by 150%. That fear isn’t reality. Its a reminder that I’m allowed to take a step back, redefine what success means to me, and share my creativity without losing sight of what’s actually important. It’s a feeling of freedom.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My favorite shots are always what I call “the moments in between”. Of course I love big, bright smiles aimed right at the camera, but its the loud belly laugh, the closed eyes, the pure joy felt in the moments after the “pose” that mean so much more to me and my clients. That’s what I do my best to capture, and I’m most proud of those images because they’re authentic emotions that I have the honor of freezing in time.

It’s been a long road to get to where I am today. I worked in the audio video production industry for over a decade and was lucky enough to be involved in every aspect of the company which essentially taught me how to run my own business. Somewhere along the way I picked up a camera and it just felt natural… and fun! Once I realized that photography is what I was meant to do, I dove in head first. I learned every button, every term, every editing software I could get my hands on and I loved every minute of it. Don’t get me wrong, life has thrown me some curveballs that derailed some of my “plans” but I’ve also learned how to redirect rather than give up.

My brand is all about capturing real life. Growing up with next to nothing, I have very few photos of myself or the people I love, and zero family photos to share with my kids. I think that’s why I’m so passionate about preserving real life moments that shouldn’t be forgotten.

My husband Aaron. He has supported my ups, my downs, my sideways, and everything in between.
