We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucas Gauger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucas, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think about risk as something that isn’t guaranteed but an embracement of possibilities. Knowing that if I take a risk and jump, that my only choice is to succeed or fail within a pool of endless possabilites. The role risk’s have taken in my life have taught me just to take them more. That on the other side of your discomfort is something that give’s you purpose and meaning. That purpose and meaning may then drive your goals and idea’s to farther than you could’ve imagined.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what set’s me apart from other’s the most is my consistent work ethic. I feel like I’m constantly working towards my future goal’s and shaping the future I have wanted. What helped me the most with staying consistent was just finding meaning within my work.
I am excited most to inspire other’s around the world to take the same risk’s I took, to truly search for your “why”. When you know why you’re doing something. I find that life slowly full-fills you, day by day.
I got where I am today by just taking small step’s daily toward something you want or desire. When I first started I thought the process of becoming valuable and efficient within an industry would be easier. When I realized it’s more about finding my own style and path within my own time is what really set me apart and turned me into a professional. It was easy, I love doing what I do so every day when I woke up and chose to learn more about what I love, it wasn’t any type of discipline or having to force myself but the pull toward’s wanting to put so much time toward something that other’s would call work.
There are many lesson’s I’ve learned throughout my journey. For example, the discipline of getting back up after you have experineced a loss or hardship. For so long I had honestly just let myself get effected by the outside circumstances within my life. That if one thing had gone wrong I would get so in my head I’d procrastinate the goal’s I had at the time. I learned through trial and error that when you look past the thing’s going on and still follow through with the goals and task’s you set upon yourself within a positive mindset you should do the same with a negative one.
I want the world to know that you can become anything you set your mind to. When you formulate a plan in your head all you have to do is execute and watch what you thought would be hard, grow into something that root’s you in discipline as a person. This showed me to act now and in the moment because the present is the best gift in life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area. I would take them to my favorite Mexican restaurant called “El Palmar” for some Mexican breakfast. I would then take them to a huge tower in the woods that scales up to about 200ft. I would then go for a hike with them in the surrounding area. I would then take them to the gym for a lift and then grab some lunch at people park. I would take them to visit a few of my other friends in the area as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been so many people that have helped me to be who and where I am today. Thinking back within my career journey I thought about who has impacted that journey the most. My friend and filmmaker Luke Berg who live’s out in Utah really showed me a lot within the filmmaking space. He helped me with many of the basic skills I learned within editing that grew my love for it and pushed me to continue doing it today. We eventually got to collaborate on a video called “Life is Happening Now” which we submitted into a film festival for fun because we both have never entered one and we actually ended up winning the film festival. This really showed me how powerful community and connections are within any business or successes.
