We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeline Nichols and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madeline, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I could make a long list of the people, places, and activities that make me happy. Instead, I will say that I love being a dog mom and I love to create. My pups guarantee a smile on my face every single day and having two best friends to do life with has been the best thing ever! I’ve always loved to create. From craft projects, fashion styling, interior decorating, graphic design, photography; I love to do it all. There’s something really special about having an idea in your head and then making it a reality; something that you and others can also see or touch.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At the beginning of 2019, I brought home my corgi, Honeybun! I wanted a way to document and share all of her new adventures, so I created an Instagram account for her. I didn’t have much time to dedicate to posting but I did the best that I could. Eventually, I upgraded to a new phone which made it so much easier to take quality photos right on the spot. As I began posting more consistently, I also started brainstorming more creative photo ideas. I spent about a week or two planning and photographing our first big project. It was really exciting for me to see how much people loved it which led to more and more ideas that I wanted to create!
The creative process behind taking our photos has been so much fun to explore. I like to gather inspiration from everything around me. The first thing I do when I think of a new concept is to jot down a list of all my ideas. This can include locations, props, outfits, or specific photo angles. Then I like to sort through them and plan out the different photoshoots. When we work with brands, I also keep in mind what type of content would best resonate with their audience as well as our own. I always try to repurpose items around my house but sometimes I have a very specific idea which then leads to a few hours on the internet and many trips to the stores. It can be frustrating at times if I can’t find an item or when Honeybun might be having a bad day, but the end result is always worth the all effort that goes into it.
My biggest hope is that our photos will bring smiles to people’s faces. As we continue to grow, we not only want to share fun photos but would love to share helpful tips, tricks, and activities that our fellow dog lovers can also do with their pups!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many fun places in our area it’s hard to choose. We love going to our local farmers market on Saturday mornings. We also love checking out the different flea markets around town; they’re typically dog-friendly so Honeybun comes along too! Some other fun activities we like are the Frist Friday Art Walk in Phoenix, the Desert Botanical Gardens, hiking the Superstition Mountains, and trying out all the local coffee shops!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All of my family and friends who support us! I couldn’t do it all without them. From helping with photoshoots or just being there when I feel a bit overwhelmed. A special thanks to our online community too! Everyone has been so kind, and we have made so many new friends that we never would’ve met if we hadn’t started our Instagram journey.
