We had the good fortune of connecting with Marci Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marci, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?

When we first launched Keepers, we didn’t fully understand how vital our services would be. The more local businesses we worked with, the more gratitude and relief our clients expressed, the more we saw that our goal wasn’t just to clean floors and restock supplies. It was to allow teams and managers to focus on what matters to their businesses.

So, when a doctor walks into an exam room? She doesn’t think twice about whether it’s been properly disinfected — she is free to focus on her patient.

When a business manager sits down to plan for company growth, he doesn’t worry whether or not they have the resources to ensure every new business space will be clean and well-stocked with office supplies. He gets to focus on the future.

When a teacher enters her classroom, she doesn’t need to waste time ensuring that everything has been disinfected correctly. She can be confident that the space is ready for them to learn.

We also have a huge passion for being an exemplary employer to our cleaning crews. My husband, Carlos, and his family cleaned offices for many years to help put his father through school. This has given Keepers a deeper understanding of the dedication and hard work shown by our cleaning crews.

We acknowledge the impact working with Keepers can have on families to be financially secure. We provide excellent cleaning to our customers so they can focus on doing what they love, while also ensuring the many cleaners who depend on us for work are able to provide for their families.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2008, my husband Carlos was a commercial insurance broker who sold primarily to construction companies. But due to the recession, most of the construction businesses were closing their doors fast. Our income was quickly shrinking.

So, Carlos came to me with a crazy idea. He wanted to start his own cleaning business. At the time I was working as an office manager. We had two small kids ages 4 and 2, and I was expecting our third. To say we were already stretched thin is an understatement.

I had my doubts about launching a startup, but Carlos had already worked in commercial cleaning through college and the cost for start-up supplies was minimal. After all we already owned a vacuum!

After 15 years we have learned many of the ups and downs of owning a business. From starting with nothing we have grown to provide services for over 600 customers a month. I love being able to work side by side with my husband in growing Keepers. We hope we are setting an example for our 4 kids of perseverance despite many setbacks.

Keepers is known for being a local Arizona family-owned business who provides exceptional cleaning services. We are a great company to work with because of our friendly team members. We truly care about everyone from customers, to staff, to cleaning crews and strive to make everyone feel appreciated.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love the many opportunities we have to get out and explore the beautiful scenery of Arizona. Some of the spots I would be sure to visit are hiking in the Superstition Mountains, paddle boarding down the Salt River, and boating in Canyon Lake. Scottsdale has great shopping at Fashion Square Mall, Kierland Commons, and Scottsdale Quarter. The Henry is a great spot for delicious food and fun atmosphere.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Keepers would not exist without the vision of our founder, Carlos Hernandez. He saw what this could become when I didn’t think it was possible. He pushes me everyday to think and dream bigger that I could have on my own. I am lucky enough not only to work everyday with Carlos, but also to be his wife for over 21 years.
