We had the good fortune of connecting with Margo Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Margo, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has changed twice in the past 6 years. Six years ago, I was working in corporate America in Los Angeles. I was working 9-10 hour days, commuting, paying people to raise my kids and had little energy or time to parent. When I moved to Tucson to start my own busines, the hours were grinding because we were an unestablished start-up and I had only one employee. Fast forward to today. My business is 6 years old and I have a great team of employees. I work in the store only 3 days a week and can leave early or come in late when necessary. I take vacation when I want and can take more than 2 weeks a year to coincide with my children’s school schedules. I used to have a work/life balance and I now have a life/work balance. Work can’t always come first.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Bra Spa is a bra fitting boutique where we educate women about what a proper fitting bra looks and feels like. We sell bras of all styles and sizes. The Bra Spa stands a part from other stores that sell bras because we really care! We care if our customer leaves with a correct fitting bra. We care that the bras are appropriate for the customer’s lifestyle. We care about feedback we receive from our customers. We care enough to stock our store with inventory that is varied and in style and in sizes that our customers need and want. The Bra Spa also sells shapewear, panties and swimwear that actually fits.
We pride ourselves on being body positive and having a fun, upbeat energy in the store. We are THE go to destination for bra that fit in Southern Arizona.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A weeklong trip in Tucson, huh? I hope she doesn’t come between May and September. 🙂
During the days, we’d go hiking at Sabino Canyon or Mt. Lemmon, rent a 4 wheeler from Tucson Adventure Rentals and head out to Reddington Pass. We would go shopping on 4th Avenue and visit some local clothing boutiques like Whimsy, Desert Mariposa, Maya’s Palace and My Girlfriend’s Closet. As the sun sets, a drive through Saguaro National Park is always a delight. To view those majestic cacti is amazing every time.
We might stay a night or two at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort, just so we can float around in the lazy river and relax poolside.
We are going to eat at Baja Cafe or Bisbee Breakfast Club for breakfast, Prep n Pastry or Divine Bovine for lunch and Zio Pepe or Pinnacle Peak for dinner. We’ll grab dessert from Sydney’s Sweet Shoppe, My Little Cakery or Nothing Bundt Cakes.
Of course, we’d try on bras and lingerie at The Bra Spa!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I was figuring out my next step, I read the book What Color is Your Parachute? and diligently worked through the workbook chapter. This book forced me to journal and to answer hard questions about myself, my desires and my work skills. It helped my narrow my focus and to realize my next career path. It was hugely inspirational and instrumental for me.
I would like to shoutout Lisa Cole. I hired Lisa as a Consultant when my business was in it’s infancy stages. Without her guidance and weekly meetings, I would not have been able to successfully take each step to turn my business idea into a reality.
I would also like to shoutout to my first employee, Kateland Weissman. She brought knowledge and perspective that I did not have and trusted me even when I had to pay her in cash taken from my personal bank account.
