We had the good fortune of connecting with Mario Esquer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mario, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been a serial entrepreneur my entire life. I started young when I was only 7 years old selling candy and baseball cards at school. That was my first introduction to business, and I fell in love with it. I started Avadium, a product design company a few years after graduating college. I loved the feeling of creating a new venture and leading the direction for the company became a passion for me. The ability to shape the culture and business strategy was one of the most important aspects of starting my own company. It was an amazing feeling to see the company grow each year and allowed me to work with different organizations bringing their products and brands to market.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Avadium is an Industrial design and product development firm. We develop new products for companies by using our innovative design process. We start by concepting ideas through sketches and refine them to the best only showcase the best. We then create presentation renderings or 3D renderings to show our clients realistic images of the products and how they will be used. After we have an approval on a design, we then move to engineer the products with all of the parts in CAD. Using 3D CAD software allows ups to refine the design and prototype it. We use technologies like 3D printing and CNC cutting to quickly create parts. Avadium also supports its product development with branding. We create brands not only through the physical products but also through the collateral like product naming, logo design and packaging. The company was able to grow the business year over year by strong networking and making sure we provided great work to our clients. The key to our success was having clients refer us to other companies with strong recommendations. I was included in a past Arizona Republics 35 Entrepreneurs under 35 List which provided some great PR and brought in more clients. This was followed by winning and Icon award for my contributions to the design and busines world. Our plans are to continue to grow and become more successful in Arizona and look for secondary offices in California and Michigan. We are also looking to launch some of our own internal products to the market in the next few years.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are lucky enough to be in sunny Scottsdale that features some great activities around the city. We would start by taking our guests to some of our favorite restaurants around the valley. We love the outdoors with golf, hiking and lounging by the pool. The nightlife is amazing in Scottsdale which provides different levels of entertainment. To finish up the week long trip, you would have to head north to see Sedona, Jerome and experience the Grand Canyon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am dedicating the Shoutout series to my wife Kim. I could not have done it without the support of my wife as well as her amazing talent. She has shaped and prepared the company for the future and actively manages Avadium. She has brought fresh new ideas to the team and is the VP of Marketing. Kim has always been a strong executive pushing me in the right direction to build our business together and increase annual revenue. She deserves the credit and recognition for the continued success of Avadium.
