We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After having worked in Corporate Dentistry, and finding it unfulfilling, I wanted to create a dental practice that I would want to go to for my own dentistry, and that would be rewarding and fulfilling over the course of a career. I knew that I would have to create my own vision in order to achieve this. Thus, Laveen Smiles was born, and I set about making my vision a reality.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting a business from scratch was not easy. There were many leaps of faith, and many times that the whole thing could have come crashing down around me. However, through perseverance, a definitive vision of what I wanted to create, and Divine Providence, I was able to create Laveen Smiles, and serve my community with a private practice alternative to corporate dentistry. By creating a practice from scratch, I have been able to design everything exactly how I would want it. I have been able to invest in the latest technologies, and the best equipment. I have been able to create a work environment for my teammates that they enjoy being in. I have been able to create a relaxing and modern office environment that my patients appreciate. The biggest lesson I have learned is that life is not a destination, but that there is joy in the journey, and that some of the most rewarding aspects of owning a small business is creating something from nothing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Phoenix is a vibrant and exciting city to live in. Depending on the stage of life you find yourself in, there is something for everyone. In the stage of life I am in, I have 3 young children ages 5, 3, and 1. You’ll most likely find out family at Cesar Chavez Park in Laveen AZ, or supporting some of our locally owned and operated business for lunch or dinner. Some that come to mind are: Scooptacular for ice cream, Mimi Forno Italiano for pizza, or Danziesen Dairy for Some shakes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife for believing in me and supporting me in taking a risk to invest in myself.
