We had the good fortune of connecting with Martin Mendelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

If you think about it, almost anything we do in life comes with risk. Even getting in the car and going to the grocery store! When it comes to risk in our professional lives, I employ the same construct. Nothing we do has zero risk.

I remember when I first became medically disabled from Dentistry. We were living outside of Baltimore Maryland and left everything behind to take a new position in a dental laboratory. Not only that, but I was also going to be doing something I had never done before. That was a big risk! However, my intention was to work in this laboratory to learn, network, and grow as a professional. In the end, it really paid off. Even though I was only at that laboratory a few short years due to an acquisition.

The second risk that always comes to mind was my journey to become a certified professional coach and keynote speaker. I initially spent five figures to achieve my first certification which has paid off many times over. Once again, I believe that it was due to the intention with which I jumped into coaching and speaking.

The common thread between these two examples is the intention with which I took the risk. I’m not one to take blind risks, I am one to take calculated risks.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I founded Metamorphosis Coaching six years ago after I achieved my first coaching credential. Since that time, I have worked with thousands of business leaders and medical professionals from all over North America to feel less burdened by leadership, empowered to resolve challenges, as well to create transparent and open cultures.

My efforts have a client centered approach to establish cultures where leaders and team members excel, thrive, and love coming to work.

Most of my team facilitation engagements and coaching clients come from my keynote lectures. I have been speaking professionally for several decades and it is one of my passions to spark the light within another human being. If I can impact even one person, even in a room of over 1,000, then that is a good day. Speaking is never about me it is always about those who are looking to hear my message.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I love living in Phoenix and have been here for over 11 years now. It is amazing to me how the food scene has exploded during this time. There’s everything from amazing food trucks to fine dining that I would put up against any restaurant anywhere.

If I had to give a friend a culinary experience here in Phoenix, I think a great day would start by having breakfast at Perk Eatery in Scottsdale, who’s pancakes are the best I’ve ever had, this would be followed by several hours walking through the exhibits of the Musical Instrument Museum. Then, we would then hop in the car and drive to Meekong plaza in Mesa for some of the best Asian cuisine in the area. One of my favorites is Heng’s Kitchen in the food court.

After this, during the more temperate months of the year, I love strolling along the path of the botanical gardens. Finally, we would round out our day having an exquisite multi-course meal at Café Monarch whose cuisine and service is second to none.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

There’s been several individuals that have encouraged me in so many ways over the years.

First off is Justin Patton. Justin was my first coach and has become not only a mentor but a true friend. What he has accomplished in his life I look up to as a shining example of what being true to yourself really looks like.

Second is my friend Kris Anderson. Kris has always been one of my biggest cheerleaders and has helped me along in my own journey to figure out what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. This was before I became a coach. I I still respect Kris for what he has accomplished in his life to follow his passions no matter what.

Third is my friend Kevin O’Connell. Kevin has supported me and open doors for me like few other individuals in my life. He always reminds me that he opened the door, but I was the one that walk-through!
