Meet Mary Gretsch | Human Design Reader

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Gretsch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For me, starting my own business was about creating a life that I desired, doing something I love, that makes a difference, and serving others. I have been on my own personal journey of healing, growing, and self-empowerment- creating the life I want, including more joy, time freedom, and ultimately empowering others to do the same. When I made the choice to start my own business, it was a big leap for me. I felt the inner calling to do so and knew that it was the right move for me. Starting this specific business, was one I was essentially invited into. Prior to this, I was in corporate banking- and while I was good at what I did, I knew there was something else on the horizon for me. Through encouragement from friends, mentors, and discovering Human Design for myself- I was invited to become a student and knew this was the beginning of my next chapter.

What should our readers know about your business?
The purpose of what I do is to help others come home to themselves- to embrace who they authentically are by design and feel empowered through their life experiences. I have recently reached the milestone of one year since starting my business! It has been a challenge getting started- originally still working a full-time 9-5 job, being a single mom, and building my business after hours. I knew it was worth it, it was a passion project and something I believed in. The amount of joy and recognition I received from serving my clients made it well worth it. This past June, I finally made the leap of quitting my corporate job, and going full in on my business, being more available to serve more clients with it being my primary focus. It’s been one of the most exciting decisions I have made, and certainly a milestone in my personal life.
What really is at the foundation of starting this business is simply believing in myself. Believing that I have something of value to share, that I can make an impact on others’ lives, that my knowledge and experiences are wisdom to be shared, to empower others who are ready, curious, and seeking more out of their relationships (with self and others) and their lives. I think we all at some point, seek more- expansion, understanding, awareness, light- and for me, that was the beginning of what brought me here. I have spent the last several years dedicated to healing my emotional well-being, changing my personal belief system, and learning to trust in myself. Giving myself full permission to go after my dreams and following the personal promptings I receive.
What I believe sets me apart from other Human Design readers, is my personal journey. I have studied and mentored with several different professionals- giving me a solid foundation, and well-rounded knowledge base. Along with my knowledge and practical application of Human Design in my own life- I also have a background with energy healing. (Simply put- the practice of identifying trapped emotions in the body and releasing them, as well as identifying any beliefs that are holding us back, and changing those for the better) Energy healing is what came before my exposure to Human Design. At this time, I am a student of SBT Energy Therapy- and look forward to applying the skills I know and use for myself in a more official capacity with my clients. It will be an amazing addition to offer my clients on their own personal journey of self-awareness, embodiment, and empowerment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love Mesa, spending most of my childhood and adult life living here. One of the first spots I would want to take anyone visiting would be Cup of Joey- for the best coffee, breakfast treats, as well as enjoying the loving community that is at the heart of the Cup of Joey brand. The experience of being lovingly invited, greeted, and acknowledged by name, as well as the delicious goods there makes it the perfect place to get a taste of Mesa. I never leave the store without a smile on my face or a laugh from interacting with the owners or baristas. Definitely some of the most exciting and fun people are there- from the owners to the locals who hang out. I have made some of the best friends from being a patron there.
Anyone visiting, (as long as health and cooler weather permits) I would want to take for a small hike locally. Mesa, as well as Apache Junction with the beautiful Superstition Mountains, have some beautiful trails where you can truly take in the beauty of the desert and mountains around us. Usery Regional Park is a great nearby place, right on the outskirts of town yet somehow far enough to be in the middle of the desert.
Another one of my favorite hangouts is Agritopia in Gilbert. I love grabbing lunch or dinner at the Uprooted Kitchen. The business is small, family owned, and I always feel so good after eating there. The food is fresh, colorful, inviting, divine, organic, wholesome and absolutely nutritious. There is some great outside seating so you can enjoy the beautiful Arizona weather as well as the sounds from others happily gathering with friends and loved ones.
One of my favorite things that would be on my list would be a small local road trip- it could involve driving by the Salt River and having a picnic there, or even going up to Canyon Lake and stopping by Tortilla Flats to admire the history of the area and for some prickly pear ice-cream. The roads here are so fun to drive on, and a great way to show someone the beauty of Arizona. Another fun spot on my list would be a trip down to the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch- its such an enjoyable place to go to experience seeing and feeding the animals they have there. (It’s not every day you get to interact with Ostriches!) If my visitor enjoys yoga- I would take them to the Blue Buddha Collective. They have a variety of different yoga classes- and its a great spot to enjoy the practice. Lastly, Flourish Wellness in Gilbert would be on the list- to zen out with a friend, enjoying their sauna and cold plunge, as well as other services- would be a great spot to go.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had SO much support and encouragement from those in my circle… and truthfully would not be where I am without it! I would love to give thanks to Steve, Rhonda, and Amy Collins from Cup of Joey for supporting me, believing in me, and giving me an opportunity to be a part of their community! I also want to lovingly thank Laura Lopez from SBT Energy Therapy for always supporting me, uplifting me, and mentoring me throughout this journey. My good friend Danny Guru from Human Design Advantage has also played an integral part in mentoring me, teaching me from his vast knowledge of the Human Design system.
