Meet Mateja Vrckovic | Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mateja Vrckovic and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mateja, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Being open to new people and acquaintances and constantly learning by following the advice of the best in the profession. Also, I approach each client individually, listening to them carefully and making their wishes my priority. Furthermore, always looking for innovation and trends in photography and being in the loop with new technology. Ultimately, the most crucial act was communicating my values and lifestyle and attracting clients with similar goals in business and life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Working in a large publishing house for 6 years, I never considered starting my own business. However, the publisher I worked for shut down due to the 2008 economic crisis and the decline of print media popularity. Given those circumstances, the only meaningful direction was to start my own business and build my brand. So I only contemplated it briefly but took the lunge and – through many learning, attempts, and mistakes – invested in and developed every aspect of my trade. The most challenging – yet the most exciting thing – around your own business is to accept that it constantly needs to evolve and that it’s a life -long learning endeavor.
I was lucky to recognize my calling early on, and I started attending the high school of visual arts at 14. However, being a photographer by trade sets me apart from most of my colleagues to this day… Why?
Conventional and solid foundations and principles allow me to stand confidently behind my job title, a baseline for my future clients even before they see my portfolio and an excellent building block in creating trust between you and your customers.
Thanks to social networks, the need for my services grew, and the only logical step, after education and previous experience, was to start my own business. I am beyond happy to have the opportunity to work in this phase of cultural development, where visual communication has become imperative and opened countless doors for success.
My life mission is to connect with people through photography, and creating art gives me the most immense joy. The second is to have a meaningful connection with the clients I meet along the way and leave a trance in their life by creating long life memories.
I am most inspired by life in general – people on the street, little family moments, the power of nature, and the magic and the mess of humans just being humans.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When you come to visit my city – the capital of Croatia, first I would take you to try fabulous coffee and breakfast at Brom 44. Then we would go for a stroll to the farmers market, old town, and city center. Lunch in downtown is a must – Carpaccio is one of my favorite places. Then Amalie for sweets and Cogito for afternoon coffee. The museum of contemporary art is always a surprising and interesting place to spend time. In the afternoon Park Maksimir for the sunset walk followed by cocktails at Dezman Mini Bar or dinner at Mali Bar.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my business coach Ana Cerensek.
