We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Minsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The work life balance is tricky. I left the restaurant industry to pursue barbering. Which in a way gives you more freedom, working as much or as little as you want, but you also are constantly on trying to work around your own life and clients schedules which can get tricky. You have to learn to set boundaries for yourself. As much as you want to be “the dude” its ok to not respond or sacrifice your mental health or your free time you need for yourself to squeeze every single client in, no matter how much social media says differently

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Its hard to speak on what sets me apart, I think thats up to the people to decide. I will say I care alot, wether I show it or not, some days are amazing some days are difficult but I keep showing up and working in improving myself to give the clients my all.
This is a tough industry for anyone who cares. i think the biggest challenge behind the chair is being myself, while also trying to adapt and please a plethora of other personalities a day.
Im still learning lessons daily, and one and maybe a major one is how to maintain balance for my mental and physical health. And as brand would like to focus more on that side. In a world where everyones shoving hustle culture down our throat, its ok to take care of yourself as well

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First i would take them to our downtown. Of course take them to luckys first. Pop around through our bars and restaurants down there since we really do have some fun and unique vibes in our bars. There are too many great bars and bartenders to even begin to list but we would make the rounds
I would take then to changing hands to sort through books and maybe grab a coffee at the bar.
A day or two in sedona is a must
And possible go to a show since we have a ton of bands that cruise through town all the time

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wish i could shout out every client whos stuck with me or every friend or acquaintance who has hit me with encouraging words. The biggest shoutouts of course would be to my girlfriend who always has my back good or bad she has been an incredible team mate, and also duncan my boss at the local, he gave me a shot straight out of the gate and that threw me in to sink or swim.
