We had the good fortune of connecting with McKenzie Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi McKenzie, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by the details of my past & the things I’ve been able to overcome. I’m inspired by my three kids & my desire to give them a childhood, a life, I never had. I never imagined having a lot of the things I do now and that serves as inspiration for me, especially on my harder days.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Everything Ellis Boutique is all about empowering women!! We are all about helping women feel confident and beautiful without breaking the bank. Our clothing is from Maverick the Collection, a direct sales company, who also strives on women empowerment! I opened my business back in February of 2019, so we just celebrated our 2 year anniversary! I think, with any new business or anything new you start, there are always challenges. I had never done anything like this before so I had to throw away everything I knew about myself & basically, start over! It was a constant learning process & honestly still is, everyday! A couple things that I’ve learned is to always stay consistent, believe in yourself & if it one thing isn’t working, change it around! The biggest thing I want people to know about my story/me is that it all started with a little dream & tons of hard work. So many people told me not to do it, or tried to convince me otherwise, but I kept my head down and pushed through & I’m so incredibly thankful & happy I did!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would go all over the place! We would definitely have to head up to beautiful Sedona and see the gorgeous red rocks! We would check out Oak Creek and all the cute shops!! We would spend tons of time in my town of Gilbert! We’d go over to Joe’s Real BBQ in downtown Gilbert & have some Prickly Pear ice cream at Topo. One morning, we’d go to Bergie’s for some yummy coffee & cinnamon rolls! I would have to show her my FAVORITE bakery, The Great Gadsby Bakery, on Gilbert & Warner. They are the BEST & everything is delicious! We would check out the farmer’s market in Gilbert on Saturday morning & enjoy all the food trucks!! It would be a week full of fun & food, showing all the local spots love!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would literally be NOTHING without my friend/photographer, Ciera Thompson. She has been with me since I started my business & helped pushed me to even do it in the first place. She’s been my constant support and has told me to keep going & keep making it happen. She is genuinely such an AMAZING person and I am so thankful/lucky/blessed to have her in my life. She is so incredibly talented and has helped me grow so much a business owner, and friend. It’s so funny to think we met each in seventh grade and this is where we are now!
