Meet McKenzie Kelly | Owner of Define Beauty Medspa, Licensed Aesthetician & Certified Laser Technician

We had the good fortune of connecting with McKenzie Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi McKenzie, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Define Beauty Medspa name was created because I truly feel that each person is uniquely beautiful in their own way. Our job is to help you define your own beauty by creating confidence within oneself. I believe that when you look in the mirror, your inner beauty should shine from within. The best way to help bring that out is by creating confidence and happiness with how we look on the outside. I have seen many patients lives change when they finally look in the mirror and honor the unique beauty they bring to this world.

I moved from a small town in Illinois at the age of 18 to pursue my Aesthetic education and career. After completing school, I had the opportunity to work for many well know Physicians, Dermatologists, and Plastic Surgeons in Arizona. With each practice I gained more knowledge and experience with different skin conditions, treatments & lasers. As the years went on, I found a true passion for comprehending the complexity of the skin and the influence of environmental factors, lifestyle choices, and genetic predispositions on one’s skin health. My goal is to help my patients understand these three important factors and how they can affect or enhance the results of their skin health. Together, we then create a sustainable and achievable skin care plan to create long lasting results.

What should our readers know about your business?
After almost 15 years as an Aesthetician, I was finally able to open a four-treatment room store front Medspa in Central Phoenix. This is something I am very proud and excited about as I have envisioned doing this since I became an Aesthetician at 18 years old. I feel I held every position and worked in every type of Aesthetic practice needed to gather the pieces of my puzzle needed to create this masterpiece I call Define Beauty Medspa!

At Define Beauty Medspa, our primary goal is to ensure every patient feels completely at ease and at home. This is your well-deserved time to relax and unwind, and we warmly welcome individuals from all walks of life. Whether you arrive in your favorite sun dress, full face of makeup, or none at all. A dressed for business attire or casually sporting yoga pants with tousled hair, we welcome you!

As soon as you settle onto our treatment bed, the outside world and its stresses vanish for an hour, allowing you to fully indulge in your personal time. When you choose Define Beauty Medspa, rest assured that each appointment is tailored to the current condition of your skin, your upcoming schedule, and always aligned with your long-term skin health goals.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite staycation is at the Omni Montelucia Resort. It feels as if you have escaped to another country in there! They have plenty of beautiful pools and mountain views to enjoy! I love treating myself and friends in town to dinner at Steak 44 and brunch is always fun at Sumo Maya! I would also recommend catching a comedy show downtown at Stand-up Live and then heading over for some live music at Copper Blues!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents! They have always believed in me and encouraged me to follow my dreams. If it wasn’t for them encouraging me to move across the country and experience a new life, achieve my goals, and live my life to the fullest I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. I always my Mom’s nurturing soul. She never judges and is always open to hearing other’s stories and finding the good those we meet. She also never left anyone tell her she couldn’t do something. If she wanted to accomplish something, she was going to find a way. I am so much like her in so many ways. I am grateful. My parents raised me to work hard, always be honest, and to see the world through an open, understanding, and experimental way.

My parents have been my biggest cheerleaders! Their unwavering belief in me and their encouragement to chase my dreams have played a huge role in shaping the person I am today. It’s because of their support that I had the courage to move across the country, explore new experiences, pursue my educations and career, and live life to the fullest.

My mom, in particular, has a nurturing spirit that’s truly remarkable. She approaches people with an open heart, never passing judgment, always eager to listen to their stories, and keen on finding the goodness in everyone she meets. Moreover, she possesses this incredible determination – no one could ever tell her she couldn’t achieve something. If she set her mind to it, she’d find a way to make it happen. In so many ways, I’ve inherited her tenacity, and for that, I’m profoundly grateful.

My parents instilled in me the values of hard work, unwavering honesty, and the importance of viewing the world with an open, empathetic, and adventurous perspective. Their guidance has been the compass guiding me through life, and I couldn’t be more thankful for their influence.
