We had the good fortune of connecting with Meco Wade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meco, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because I could not live within the conformity of a day to day 9-5 job. I had done so for many years and always found myself seeking a creative outlet after work. The beauty/hair industry gave me the opportunity to express myself on human canvases and help to create something special for myself as well as help the community I serve to feel special as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always say I’m a chameleon, and I think that is something that sets me apart. I am able to adapt to anyones needs, and can really see their vision through my eyes which helps me to create exactly what they’re looking for. I am most proud of overcoming challenges and going back to beauty school later in life as it was always a dream of mine, and something I felt was calling me in my adult years, doing so gave me the maturity and hustle I needed to really skyrocket my career with the opening of my new salon in Bisbee, Arizona, it wasn’t always an easy journey, and I really had to remember that making people feel good and confident is who I do it for. The hair I’ve created and the people I’ve helped along the way have made this experience so worth it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being located in a smaller town, there is so much hidden charm. I was introduced to Bisbee because of the Bisbee 1000, which is a marathon race type event, where you climb over 1000 stairs. I would start there, because it offers some the best scenic views this town has and then we would definitely head over to the Bisbee Grand, because they have some of the best service and food and really demonstrates the hospitality of the city. In the following days we’d have to check out Artemizia because I love supporting the local artists and know that what you can find in this gallery isn’t something you could find in other places. Bisbee is also a huge old mining town, so we’d have to show off Th Queen Mine Tour and The Historical Bisbee Society, so my best friend could really learn about the 200+ year history that Bisbee started from. Lastly, we’d have to see The Lavender Mine pit, which is the remains of our history as the leader in copper production.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is so many people I could thank for this journey, included, but not limited to, my family, my Arizona community, and my beauty mentors who believed in me, and encouraged me to not only pursue a career in the beauty industry and perfect my craft, but that I had the brain for business as well, which led me to finding my place as a salon owner.
