We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The start of my business happened naturally. I always wanted to own my own business, but CMH was never planned. It fell into place. I had the opportunity to create something and it grew very quickly due to high demand and my work ethic.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
California Motocross Holidays (CMH) is a motocross vacation company based in Southern California. We provide bike rentals and holidays to those who have a love of motocross. I believe my customer service and work ethic is what sets CMH apart from the others. I always go above and beyond for my customers, whatever the request. I am most proud of the fact that my entire business is based off of referrals. I have never had to advertise for CMH. I have life long customers who then help me get new customers by telling everyone how great of a time they’ve had.
I started small and grew with the business. I didn’t go beyond my means or try to rush it. It was easy to start because as I said it happened so naturally, but there are definitely tough times when it is busy. CMH has one official employee, myself, so that created a lot of long nights and hard work that fell on my shoulders. But I got a flow and with experience created a good system.
I have learned that sometimes more is not necessarily always better. I had assumed taking more and more clients was better, but with that meant purchasing more bikes, buying larger vehicles, etc. So I learned to find a happy medium, where again I wasn’t going over my means or pushing the limits. I wanted quality, not quantity.
I want people to know how much I truly care about CMH. It is my passion. I give 110% of myself for this business and I believe it is a direct reflection of myself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
CMH is a motocross based company, so my favorite place to visit is Fox Raceway in Pala, CA. It is one of the best tracks in the area and definitely a local favorite. After a great day of riding, we would get ready and head to dinner in Old Town Temecula followed by go carting at Pole Position.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My nan was the most encouraging person in my life from the start. She was fully supportive of me moving to the US and told me to follow through without whatever I want in life. I also have my wife who supports me and encourages me when it comes to my success.
