We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first became an entrepreneur in 2006 it was not because I had a great idea and a big dream. I was an Air Force officer who had been downsized after four years of service along with several thousand other officers.

I was angry, sad, disappointed and I had completely lost faith in any employer’s ability to match my level of commitment and loyalty. After a few failed business attempts then a successful 8-year run launching the first social media and mobile marketing company in Tucson, Arizona, I faced another loss. In 2014 my mother transitioned from this life to the next and once again I was forced to look at my life deeply. After nearly a year of reflection I concluded that it was time for me to make what I like to call a “bigger contribution” to humanity.

I decided to become a coach for corporate and government executives and entrepreneurs. I choose to work with senior leaders because their level of emotional intelligence, words and decisions regularly impact thousands and sometimes millions of others.

Supporting these leaders in becoming the best version of themselves seemed like a cause worthy of me. I have been doing this work for the last nine years.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tucker Coaching & Consulting is a global human performance, management consulting and technology, services firm. We are committed to delivering government and industry solutions that enhance organizational capacity, increase leadership effectiveness and overall business performance. Our Mission is to provide support and mission-critical resources for organizations, teams and leaders who are committed to making America and the world a more peaceful and prosperous.

We are experts in providing executive coaching to senior leaders, creating coaching organizations, and leading transformative leadership development experiences for the C-suite, executives, directors, and seasoned entrepreneurs.

The expansion of our team and partners now allows us to support the recruiting, administrative, cultural transformation, information technology and even private aviation needs of our clients. We are proud that we have helped deliver $1.2B in revenue for Fortune 500, mid-sized, and small companies.

What sets us apart is our focus on our client’s long-term vision, their values and most importantly, who they must become as leaders and/or an organization to actualize this vision and live up to their values. We know that all results are an extension of the internal state of a leader, team, or organization. To this end we rarely focus on the “problems” of our clients. We know that they are merely symptoms. Instead, we focus on the mental, emotional, behavioral, and cultural aspects of each leader and organization. This allows us to consistently co-create exponential results with our clients.

We create success by ensuring we are clear about how our clients define success no matter how big or small, we honor that definition, then support them in realizing their desired state. We do this one client at a time, and it is what we are known for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Tucson, Arizona and I love it. My love has grown the more I’ve had the opportunity to share my city with friends from out of town. If I were to plan a week-long trip for a visitor a few places on the itinerary would be Mt Lemon, Tucson, Mountain Park, and Sabino Canyon. It would also include the Tucson Desert Museum, the Gem and Mineral Show during late January and February and a visit to one of Tuson’s many Pickleball courts. This includes the Pickleball restaurant, Corbitt’s, where patrons can have a great meal and play Pickleball on one of their many indoor and outdoor courts. Other restaurants would include; Rocco’s Pizza, Boca Tocos on 4th Avenue and any one of the many Sonoran hot dog food trucks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people who deserve recognition in my story. After my mother and father who taught me to be persistent and always purse my dreams, my wife Ellen deserves acknowledgement for her listening ear and support. She along with co-founder of the Wisdom Business Academy, Ivri Turner, and Minister/Author, the late Keith Gorley, all challenged me to take inventory of my skills with people, follow my heart’s desire for greater meaning and to purse coaching as a profession.

My mentor and founder of Fortitude Consulting, Col. John Boggs guided me and helped me build a successful coaching practice. My former University of Texas-Dallas coaching instructor and Founder of Hawthorne Union challenged me to always speak truth boldly and without hesitation.

My good friend, namesake, and founder of Consciously Coaching, Kvon Tucker continues to encourage me to dream bigger as it relates to what I can accomplish with leaders and for the coaching profession.

My chiropractor, workout partner and friend, Dr. Jamal Fruster keeps me focused on my health and pushing my limits in the gym. Love Odih Kumuyi, founder of Unsiloed.org opened the doors for me to bring my coaching skills into the world of organizational culture work and Laurel Elders, Founder, of the Institute for Integrative Intelligence introduced me to the classroom and gave me an opportunity to train and develop new International Coaching Federation credentialed coaches.
