We had the good fortune of connecting with Michele Duhigg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michele, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is what drove me to start my own business. I previously worked in management consulting and saw everyone around me work 80-hour-weeks, missing out on important life and family events. With young children at the time, it was difficult for me to see the advantage of working my life away. I was fortunate enough to have flexibility in my corporate role, but now, as my own boss, I am able to prioritize my mental, physical and spiritual health above all else. And I am blessed to help others do the same.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a marketing consultant for mid-size consulting firms and an empowerment coach for female professionals and entrepreneurs. I absolutely love what I do and wouldn’t change it for the world. Entrepreneurship definitely has its challenges, but it is also the best personal development experience I have ever had. Through the ups and downs I have learned to rely on my intuition, stay positive and never doubt myself. There are enough critics in the world – we should always build ourselves up, rather than add to the judgment we already endure. I am all about helping others bring out their passions and create a purpose-led life of fulfillment, freedom and abundance! It lights me up just knowing I can help change lives of others who are willing to pause, reflect and abandon the auto-pilot lifestyle so many others lead.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Phoenix is a large city with so many amazing restaurants, attractions and things to do. I would definitely recommend spending some time in Scottsdale – especially Old Town, where many of our award-winning restaurants can be found. Depending on the time of year, I would recommend a day or two sitting poolside at one our incredible resorts, taking in a Spring Training baseball game or jetting up to Sedona to bask in the beauty of the red rocks. Each town or neighborhood within the Phoenix metro area has a vibe of its own, so there is definitely an area that speaks to everyone.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for my husband and the fact that he has been patient and supportive through the process of starting my own business. Without his love and support, I would not have had the ability to build a business from the ground up. I am also very thankful for the many coaches and mentors I have found along the way. As a female entrepreneur, it is so special to find others on a similar path and be a sounding board, support system and motivator for one another when others might not understand what you’re dealing with.
