We had the good fortune of connecting with Michele Kaneshiro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michele, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a person that has ADHD I had more than one thought process behind starting my own business. I work in more than one industry and I am always being everything for someone else. I was offered a position to leave one of my jobs now for a higher salary and matched benefits. I am a person who believes in loyalty and did not take the offer because I like where I am at. However, this made me have a light bulb moment as in to why would I want to start a new venture somewhere else for someone else. Why would I not be that person for myself. Why would I not shine bright on my own from my own hard work. Why would I not show my daughters that you can do anything that you put your mind to. So that jump started my thought process and got my wheels turning to start something for myself. I am already a Licensed Contractor in Arizona, Licensed Arizona Realtor, Office manager at a Women Owed Construction Company, Mom of 4, and a wife. Why not add something to my plate that I could call my own. So I ventured out and started Pacific Bodies, a body contouring business. At first my Husband was on board and also was certified but the male industry is not ready for the amazing results of body sculpting so he has stepped back and I am now the everyday face of Pacific Bodies. This is my first year and this my first business that is all me. I am ready to shine bright in my newest venture and show up for myself.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own more than one business but the one that I am 100% the face of is Pacific Bodies. I am a certified body sculptor that provides body sculpting and contouring to various areas of the body. I was hesitant to start at first as there are so many already here in Yuma, AZ. I had a pep talk with myself and reminded myself that every nail salon, hair salon, massage parlor has a wait list and is always busy. There is more than enough to go around and that should not be a reason to distract my vision. I have learned that in a small community a lot is word of mouth and if you do not have anything nice to say than do not say anything at all. I would like the world to know that ADHD is not a road block it does not limit you. If you utilize it to your benefit then you can have more than one venture going on at a time. It is not something to be ashamed of or scared of in the business industry. If anyone tries to bring you down just consider the source and keep it moving.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, our small town does not have the best options for entertaining. I would offer a day out at the Lake which is always fun to go out on the boat and / or jet skis.
Then have dinner in Downtown Yuma which is a historic park of the City with restaurants and a few bars. We would probably end the night at my house with some wine as that is my favorite place to be.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well if I was to be 100% honest the shoutout would go to my Husband and Daughters. They day in and out are there with me to see my struggles as well as my achievements. They understand that I am busy and help when they can. They are my biggest cheerleaders. Outside of my family there are others that provide support and encouragement. There is a hair stylist Bernice with VIP STYLES of Yuma that is my business neighbor and has been supportive since day one and we did not even know each other prior to this as well as my other neighbor Samantha Justice who referred me to this interview. She has also been supportive since day one!!
