We had the good fortune of connecting with Miklós Breitner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miklós, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The Golf Business Monitor (www.golfbusinessmonitor.com) was launched in 2009 as a hobby blog to show the golf industry the relevant best practices of the hospitality industry. In 2009 I worked in a WPP agency (Possible Worldwide). Between 2009-2015 thanks to the quality of advice and content in general, I received many RFPs from various companies, plus I was added to the media contact list of major brands (e.g. Troon, Syngenta, Callaway Golf, etc.) and golf clubs.

In 2015 I felt I would like to give a chance to Golf Business Monitor to be my sole business, especially because I knew I was giving something really unique to the golf business media and the golf industry: investigative journalism combined with my 20+ years of experience in marketing.

I am contributing to leading golf business events as a speaker too. E.g. Club Managers Association of Europe. I was even featured in Forbes Magazine and the New York Post: https://nypost.com/article/inside-americas-men-only-golf-clubs/

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
During my 22 years long professional career, I gained experience on both marketer (e.g. Sanofi, Citigroup) and agency side (e.g. Possible Worldwide, Bates141, Leo Burnett Worldwide). When I moved from the agency side to Sanofi, I was able to launch several innovative projects (CHC, Rx) that were totally new in the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry (e.g. using social listening software to understand the perception of vaccines). This effort was recognized by a TEAMS Sales Award in Sanofi HQ in 2011.

There is no shortcut. You have to build up yourself both professionally and personally and never stop learning. At the same time, you must be very open to innovations and different cultures.

It is fair to say that the creation of Golf Business Monitor (www.golfbusinessmonitor.com) is based on a kind of blue ocean strategy where I reimagined the golf business media. I am very happy that the Golf Business Monitor is a profitable website and golf club marketing consultancy. What my readers and clients cannot see is the amount of time invested in developing timely, relevant, urgent content, but also to develop myself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If the person would come this week I would take him/her to the Sziget, Europe’s largest music festival. To see the beauty of Budapest I would take him/her to Hilton Budapest’s brand new White Raven sky bar in the evening.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I must admit I learned a lot from my clients (e.g. Troon, Syngenta, Golf Genius Software, Club Caddie, Wilson Golf, Puma Golf, Players 1st, Zala Springs Golf Resort, etc.) and business partners but also from people on social media who were ready to answer my questions.
