Meet Mo Van | Artist and Wonderer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mo Van and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mo, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was a young girl, I always loved how creating art made me feel. I would draw, build, and create all sorts of things from random materials around the house and our yard. My mother always reminds me to this day that I said, “I want to be an artist when I get older.” So here we are, decades later, and my LOVE for ART has only grown!
Throughout my years, I have experienced many forms of ART and the ways they can be expressed. For over 2 decades I worked in the Interior Design Field, Construction Sales, and was an Art teacher at a few community centers in the valley! Each job was a passion for me and I loved to see how things transformed. Whether it was an empty house that is filled with beautiful furniture and textiles, to the earth being excavated to build amazing structures and the smile that Art brings to a young child.
All of this is what fuels my soul daily and has led me to be able to express my passions through my stories and share them with others.
This is how Mo Dzines was created, simply out of LOVE for ART and the healing properties it serves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
This is going to be fun…and probably confusing!!
The ART I create always come from the HEART.
I love to engage with others and hear their stories. It is when one is vulnerable, that we can see the beauty in everything. I have created many forms of mix media art: from paintings, to repurposed furniture pieces, Interior Designing, teaching ART to toddlers, and to making custom earrings.
Over a year ago in Nov. 2020, I had a realistic decision to make and I was terrified of the unknown. Certain health issues emerged and I couldn’t ignore them any longer. I had to listen to my body and take a break physically and mentally. I had to SLOW DOWN. I was not able to work at my current position due to the physical strains on my body. I had to focus on myself and listen to what my body needed, if not, things would only get worse. Was it easy? Heck NO!!! It’s been over a year and I am still learning every day that my lifestyle has changed along with my career. However, I keep waking up every morning very grateful that I am here and ready to show the world who I am and what MO DZINES is about!
I decided to start a custom earring business in December 2020, specializing in custom made earrings that share your story to the world!!
If anyone wants to know, I am a story teller by nature. It amazes me how many memories we can store in our noggin!
I have never been a TECH person. Ask anyone that knows me. (Insert smile here) And here I was going to launch a website in July of 2021 solely of my passion! This was a BIG proud “MO”ment for me!! I HAVE such an amazing soul sister that has been mentoring me along the way! Encouraging me constantly and helping me envision my dream career. I’m truly blessed to call her my friend! She has shown me how to overcome my fear of the INTERNET!! I still have a long way to go, but I just take it one day at a time.
Hmmm…When people hear of Mo Dzines, I want them to instantly smile! In fact, the reason I love making custom earrings for individuals is truly for them to shine their smile and feel confident in what they want to express in themselves! I really enjoy using mixed materials in beads when I am designing and creating the special pair of one-of-a-kind earrings. Just like in life, not one person is created as the next, so why should earrings be!! I want souls to find themselves deep inside and truly be unique and proud of who they are and their own story!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, there are so many different things to do in AZ. Living in Phoenix, and depending the time of year it would look like this:
Trip up to Page, AZ to visit Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe bend. On the way back down, go camp on the rim of the Grand Canyon and enjoy the breath-taking views of this natural wonder and hike along the trails. From there I would stop at Prescott and visit old town and check out the history about the town. Go shopping in antique stores and kayaking around the lakes there.
Cruise back down to Phoenix and from there…. the sky’s the limit. The botanical garden is my ULTIMATE favorite, any time of year. Around there, is the Phoenix Zoo and Papago trails. The sunsets are beautiful from the red rocks! Bring out your inner photographer to capture the gorgeous desert sunsets atop the red rocks.
Food and drinks…there are many vegan and non-vegan restaurants that are amazing for all kinds of souls. Take a bike ride through the Canal that runs through Phoenix or a boat around Tempe Town Lake
Museums are a must and Arizona has a variety of theaters to enjoy live music or a play. From North, to South, East and West, our communities represent ART from all around the state.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mo’s ShoutOuts!! Wow, where do I start?! Every soul that has crossed my path during my journey has been a tremendous amount of support. These past few years I have dedicated myself to a better understanding of healing and acceptance. This has been a giant team effort from medical doctors, to friends, family, community and personal reflect
