Meet Monica Johnson | Animation/VFX Agent, Makeup Artist & Pianist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
NEVER QUIT. When you quit, you’ll never be able to see the unlimited amount of possibilities that could have been your reality. I’m so thankful that I didn’t throw in the towel when I wanted to and kept pressing forward. Success absolutely doesn’t happen overnight but it starts with a vision, a goal and a purpose. When I started nurturing my craft and diving in deep every day, hustling hard and pouring my soul into my creations, my vision started to manifest.
You don’t win the race by sprinting, it’s slow and gradual. You have to let the seeds you planted take root and start to sprout. When you don’t give up on yourself and you see the seeds of your success start to take flight, that’s where the magic can happen.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Lifestyle Architect/ Entrepreneur specializing in creating content, making music, producing and doing makeup artistry. I built my Makeup Artistry business from the ground up after some key pivotal moments in my life where I needed to hit the pause button. Playing Piano came as a result of another pivotal moment, the pandemic where I was forced to hit the pause button on doing makeup for clients. Playing piano was not at all easy but I didn’t give up. Not knowing how to read music became one of my biggest challenges yet overcoming that hurdle became one of my proudest moments. Focusing my attention and energies on music allowed me to help heal myself from the inside out and allowed me to tap into another passion I never even knew existed.
My talents and passions are used for a greater cause and I bring my MoJo magic and flair to all things that I touch. Makeup Artistry and Piano are not only ways for me to express my creativity and personality but also design new experiences, inspire people, tell stories and evoke emotion.
My background in Production and Advertising has helped me to be who I am and brand myself in a way that’s uniquely me. I’m constantly learning and expanding my horizons because each day is a learning experience and an opportunity to grow and get in tune with yourself.
Your brand represents you. Find out what makes you different from everyone else and start creating.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hands down grab a cocktail and some dinner at Maple & Ash or lunch at Olive & Ivy. Do some hiking, visit Old Town for some shopping and its chic boutiques, take in a Sunset or a Sunrise someplace where the outdoor scenery is beautiful and live in the moment. One of my favorite things to do is grab drinks at the bar because sometimes the most interesting conversations and networking opportunities happen there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It certainly takes a village and there are so many people throughout my life who’ve greatly impacted me in one way or another. My mentors/coaches. my college professors and school teachers, my parents, my friends and family and people who I’ve never met but encourage me from afar. My shout out goes to people who continue to inspire and encourage me to reach for the stars whether that’s with my makeup business, my piano or in life. I couldn’t capture what I’m doing without my fantastic and team of photographers and artists. Two in particular are Christine Keeley & Orion Phillips who have both helped me to level up my piano and makeup vision with their incredible photography & videography skills.
My mom’s been a huge part of where I am today. In spite of her passing several years ago, I often channel her for her wisdom and resilience.
Authors like Dr. Joe Dispenza and helped me to view life through a different lens and use my internal resources to help create my external reality.
