We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Wallace and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is I wanted a way to be able to have something that I really enjoy doing. Having this as a side business has been a great joy for me because I love being able to reflect on where I started and looking to where I am now. If it weren’t for the people that support me I do not think that I would be where I am. It was my wonderful boyfriend and my family who pushed me to start this and build off of what I have already created. Having the process of my website which is easy to use created the best way to grow what I have built.
What should our readers know about your business?
All around there are several great photographers who take amazing photos and it can be hard to stand out from others. I think the way that I stand out is my style of photos because not everyone will take the same style of photos. I collaborate a lot with those I work with and I think that having that type of session that is fun and collaborative sets me apart from others. I come prepared with different poses and ideas, however, I also make sure that I have room for those who have some photos that they want to try to make sure that their session feels inviting and fun. I try to reflect on all of that on social media and on my website.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they were traveling to me, I am from Spokane Washington so I would set up an itinerary around all the fin things to do there. One of the days I would make sure that they have a day to visit Riverfront Park in Downtown Spokane. There they have the Loof carousel which is always super fun, and the big red wagon which is always a fun place to stop and look at. While down there, there is a really cool pavilion that is an easy walk along the river, and that has great views from the top of the pavilion. On another one of the days, there are electric scooters so I would make sure that we would have time to go around town on those to be able to see some of the cool buildings that are all around.
Along with places to see there are great places to eat and enjoy, the Spokane comedy club has an open mic night on Wednesday nights and I would plan for a friend of mine to go there and see all the local comedians who are working on new material.
Another place to hang out is Manito Park which is full of flowers and great places to walk around, it is a great place to take photos and so if they were interested in doing some fun photos that would be a great place to go.
It would be a fun week of sightseeing and trying out local places that you cant get anywhere else.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In this, I would like to shout out my boyfriend and partner Easton. He has been a great support in building what I have created. Without him, I do not think that I would have some great people to work with. I always feel like he is making me better by wanting to help me get myself out in the community to build up my website and business. I also want to thank my college Grand Canyon University.
That community has been a great way to get me out there. Without that community, I do not think I would have had a lot of successful sessions with many of its students on campus. During the spring of 2022 I had a great cap and gown season working with almost a dozen seniors taking photos and growing ideas and skills that I have been able to try due to others’ ideas of what they want during those sessions and trying them out and working on several poses and shots that I wanted to try out.
