We had the good fortune of connecting with Nana Kwadwo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a matter of fact, I had absolutely no idea I was going to be an entrepreneur. I started Factionary just as a Facebook page I occasionally posted fun facts. And that was all I thought it was going to be. But over the years it has evolved into a blog site and a startup company in which I have employed freelance writers all around the world. I just couldn’t imagine this happening in my life. I’m so glad that I’ve been able to accomplish such a great feat. I now want to share my passion and ideas with the world, I think this interview is one of such opportunities for me to share my experience. I appreciate it!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Entrepreneurship is not for the “easy-to-achieve” ones. It requires a lot of effort and dedication to achieve anything. Aforementioned, I started The Factionary just as a Facebook page, and for years that was all, I thought it was going to be.
But over the years it has evolved into a blog site and a startup company as we speak. And I must confess it was not an easy journey. So many ups and downs, I had to even give up at some point. But I knew my promise to myself. So I didn’t give up.
Here’s the backstory: It all started one night when I had little to do, as I was scrolling through my social media feed reading facts on Facebook or Twitter, I had that stroke of genius. Although I was not aware I was going to create The Factionary, it happened, inadvertently.
I initially planned on creating a page just to post fun facts. Period! This was going to be like a book of all facts, like an encyclopedia or dictionary. Kind of!
So I named it “Factbook,” but it seems it wasn’t a catch. I later thought of “Factopedia,” which sounds more like “Wikipedia.” No way!
That was when I realized that I could coin the name out of “Dictionary.” A book of all facts is like a dictionary, so why don’t I take away the ‘dic’ and put in the ‘fac,’ lexically? And that was how I created “Factionary.” Ta-da!
I never thought I’d ever be interviewed by so many media houses including Shoutout Interviews.
Today, I’m a CEO thanks to an idea I barely conceived, but it is an amazing story. I even plan on sharing my experience with many of the youth. And this interview is one of such opportunities coming soon.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are a lot of fun spots in my city you’d like to visit. Techiman, my hometown boasts of several places of interest tourists would love to explore.
I’d rather not say much but to leave you curious of what you discover. Ever walked across a natural bridge before? Visit Techiman sooner or later.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, the almighty Lord. I appreciate my creator in every single facet of my life and how far I’ve gotten with my career. I’m grateful.
Next, is my lovely family who have been there for me in the difficult times — the ups and downs, happy or sad, the good and the worst, and even the ugly.
But most importantly, my teammates who I met anonymously, yet have dedicated their lives, time, and effort to making my purpose a reality.
And just can’t forget all the haters who didn’t want to see this happen. I had to prove them wrong!
