We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Keep smiling, because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.” -Marilyn Monroe

Throughout the many decades of my life, the ups and downs, my sense of humor and smile has carried me through the rainy days into the sunshine. “Laughter is the Best Medicine” and “One Day at a Time” are my mantras! With so much life under my belt, I can think back to wonderful memories that bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Creating new memories going forward make me happy and I hope that I can share it to others through my art and my smile!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to create very bright and colorful paintings. Paintings of cats, butterflies, seahorses, mermaids, and a variety of whimsy are what I am all about! I love to see the smile on other’s faces when they see my art displayed; the colors bring happiness to their world even just for a moment. Getting to the point as an artist was not always an easy process. There is so much more to this profession than just creating the next masterpiece! The challenge of marketing, social media and exhibiting at local events has been a learning process and assisted by the best group of artist friends in my world. The biggest lesson I have learned is “don’t give up”! Life is a process just as creating art is a process as well. I love creating colorful pieces that will brighten up someone’s day just by looking at it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Phoenix and the valley has the best variety of restaurants, shops and music venues! Depending on the weekend, there is a local festival to attend with some of the best local food trucks and music to enjoy. During the week, I would plan a trip each day taking in Old Town Scottsdale, downtown Tempe on Mill Ave., and take in a museum in Phoenix or Suns game if they are in town. Of course eating at one or two of the local restaurants is a must. One of my favorites is Cooperstown Phoenix.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the years there are many who have been there for me, encouraging me and supporting me through my journey as an artist. First my parents for supporting me through my art classes. I must, however, dedicate my success to my love and partner, Jay Nixon. Jay encouraged me about 10 years ago to return back to my first love, painting and creating art. He supports me and as an artist himself, guides me in the direction of success.
