Meet Nikita Rubio | Brand Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikita Rubio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikita, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I grew up in poverty…and it wasn’t easy. I lived in a household with too many people where privacy was non-existent, stability was a luxury we couldn’t afford, and feeling safe was a rare occurrence. On many occasions, we had to get food from food banks in order to eat.
For years, I found myself getting lost in the belief that I’d never achieve what I wanted in life because of my rough start. It felt like my upbringing had set me up for failure.
Being poor isn’t just about lacking the ability to do things; it’s about lacking the resources. It was like building a house from scratch. I had to not only learn how to construct it but also create the tools needed for the job and come up with a step-by-step guide.
I will say, though, that those hardships taught me an invaluable lesson: anything is possible if you’re willing to get creative. I discovered that when you’re faced with limited options, you learn to think outside the box. You find new ways to get things done, no matter how challenging the circumstances.
So, yeah, growing up in poverty wasn’t a walk in the park, but it also shaped me into a resourceful and determined individual. It showed me that the sky’s the limit—you just have to find unique and innovative ways to reach for it(And have lots of confidence in yourself).
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, storytelling is where I found my true passion. I’ve spent countless hours refining my ability to weave powerful narratives and evoke emotions through my art. It’s amazing how I came to realize that marketing and advertising, at their core, are all about storytelling. It’s about connecting with people on a deeper level, finding creative pathways to effectively communicate a story, and leaving a lasting impression.
Understanding the art of storytelling has been a game-changer for me. It has allowed me to leverage different mediums and platforms to convey messages that truly resonate with others. Whether it’s through visual art, writing, or even interactive experiences, I’ve learned to adapt my storytelling techniques to suit various creative avenues. It dawned on me that branding and marketing go far beyond simply promoting products or services. It’s about forging meaningful connections by crafting narratives that truly engage and inspire.
I’ve come to appreciate the immense power of storytelling in my journey. It’s a way for me to express myself and touch people’s hearts. And through strategic marketing and advertising, I strive to create authentic experiences that spark conversations and make a positive impact. My ultimate goal is to be recognized as an artist who understands the magic of storytelling, and who uses it to forge meaningful connections and leave a lasting impression on those who encounter my work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many places in the valley to visit, just depends on what you are in the mood for! 🙂
When I’m in the mood for a low-key kind of day, I like to make my way to Brick Road Coffee for a Prickly Pear drink followed by a short walk a few doors down to Jerry’s Artarama in Tempe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a great debt to the multitude of individuals who have crossed my path and shared experiences with me, for they have played an instrumental role in shaping the person I am today. Growing up in the circumstances I did, I was devoid of any readily available role models. As a result, I embarked on a relentless quest to seek out support, love, and encouragement wherever I could find it.
It was a journey that demanded resilience and an unwavering determination to carve out my own path, to construct a support system from scratch. In the absence of traditional role models, I gleaned wisdom and inspiration from a diverse array of sources—friends, mentors, books, and even chance encounters. Each interaction, no matter how fleeting, left an indelible imprint on my character, providing me with glimpses of what was possible and fueling my relentless pursuit of personal growth.
