Meet Nikki Madden | Creator/Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Madden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
One of the toughest and most challenging thing about owning your own business, is maintaining clientele. There is definitely a moment where you’re flooded with requests for product; then, there’s that moment when you’ve hit a drought, and no one purchases anything.
That’s about the time when most people “throw their towel in”. Not me! I grind just a little harder. A few things I’ll do are
1. Keep NikkisnoveltiezAZ relevant. Make sure products are what the people need.
2. Understand that there are high moments, and there are low moments, and that’s ok!!
3. Never give up! You have to believe in yourself in order for success to lay in front of you.
At the end of the day, entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. Having a keen understanding about your product’s need is extremely important. Doing so will allow more time for creativity and less time for giving up.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
During our quarantine years, I developed my 2nd business: Nikki’s Noveltiez AZ. It is a brand geared to sleepwear/hair care wear. Initially, I started sewing bonnets, now, I have jewelry, eye masks for sleep, face masks, custom baskets for all occasions, and durags.
I enjoy creating the products that makes people feel and look good. I realize that many people don’t have a preference in choosing a style to protect their hair at night. However, once I explain to them how they can customize their satin bonnets, they become more aware of the many facets to wearing a bonnet.
Our creativity mixed in with the customer’s creative juices, makes for a beautiful headwear when sleeping.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living close to downtown places the night light in front of my face. The itinerary for my friend’s visit would be the following:
*Monday: Arrive, happy hour with some friends
*Tuesday: Work at my nonprofit organization’s office, taco Tuesday
*Wednesday: I have to work during the day, but when I’m off, game night with the family
*Thursday: Work at my nonprofit organization’s office, visit a museum
*Friday: 1st Friday downtown Phoenix, basketball game (if in season)
*Saturday: Watch and/or attend a sporting event, visit Children’s Museum, attend a swim party
*Sunday: Church and Family Dinner, Departure
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Huge shout out to my play niece, Sam!! She and I were talking one day about hair care. She was creating oil that encourages healthy hair growth, and I began sewing satin hair bonnets. In the beginning, we were going to gift each item as a hair care product basket. I realize there will always be a need of proper hair care products, so away I sewed!
I was able to complete satin bonnets, but Sam was not able to finish her product. She passed away last year, and my dream is to continue the process of partnering her hair career product with mine. Thanks, Niecey Sam!! RIH
