We had the good fortune of connecting with Nino Daniel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nino, how do you think about risk?
Risk-taking is a key factor in my life. Period. Throughout my time as a creative director and content curator, risks are assessed based on the hope of the outcome. I say “the hope of the outcome” because as much as I trust God’s plan, I know there will be obstacles apart of that risk that I have not even accounted for. Going about it that way, I think, makes the journey more fruitful. I don’t want to know everything, I just have to know what I may be getting myself into and flow from there. In my career over the years, risk taking has lead to some extremely high highs. There’s definitely a great feeling about reaching the end of a goal, feeling accomplished, and knowing that the risk was worth it. At the present moment, I’m taking the biggest risk of my entire career – betting it all on myself.
I’ve had my time in Corporate America, I’ve built myself as a professional on the work front, and now I’ve arrived at a space in time where it feels correct to go full throttle on me. Listen, I follow the signs and hear the messages. It is crazy bonkers bananas that I’m leaving a full time job with great benefits and security all to jump into the vast unknown with the talents I have. To be very honest – I’m excited. Not many people get a chance to take a risk on themselves for the sake of their dreams. I certainly never want to arrive at the part of my life where I know my final sun is setting and ask myself “What If”. The worst that can happen with this risk – I fall flat on my face and reevaluate from there. The best that will happen with this risk – I get to say I made it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artistic and creative side is very much a whiplash of the neck because there are so many amazing things I do and love to get into. At the foundation of it all, I am a creative in the aspect of being a choreographer, comedian, and content creator. I started my journey as a choreographer back in 2016 just a little after I began my own dance classes, Nights With Nino. Comedy is something that has been in my life for such a long time. My dad is the funniest human on this planet and I’ve learned a lot from him. Being a comedian now, for me, is through TikTok/Social Media skits. I’ve amassed over 120K followers tallying from various different social media platforms and have enjoyed connecting with my audience, brands, and other creatives. Throughout my time on social media over the last three years, I’ve created various viral series – the current one being “You’re The Smart Friend In A Horror Movie”, and have gotten to be the first ever Social Media Content Curator for all of Harkins Theatres!
The journey was NOT by any means easy. Everyone thinks they can be funny or have stage presence, but just because you tell a joke at the drive thru ATM one time on a Wednesday does not a comedian make. I’ve learned that people attach themselves to me because they see what I’ve done and accomplished – so they want it too. It may look seamless to them, but it was years of painful decisions, mental setbacks, and internal battles for me. What I’ve learned most is to watch out for energy suckers. Real vampires exist, folks, in the form of those who want to steal your light.
I can say with certainty that the thing that sets me apart from others is that I no longer wonder if others like me. I arrive as the best and most honest form of myself into every room I step in. There is no ass-kissing or gatekeeping with me, so when I get asked “how did you do it?” and people hear me say “Authenticity and Consistency”…it’s unfathomable that the keys to my very success are that simple. Plus, I have a genuine penchant for making people as laughter really is the most contagious, honest, and purest expression of emotions. Now, I will add that I don’t walk into spaces with the agenda to make people dislike me (which they can, I am not everyone’s cup of tea), but I do hope that whoever I come across…I leave a good impression. Making others comfortable around me is more my take on things rather than being liked.
Who I am and what my brand is comes down to being an experience. There’s something remarkable that happens when I hone in on my strengths, lead with honesty and compassion, and I’m able to make someone smile.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooooh when my bestie and I get together, we love activities and food. I’d start us off with a lunch at The Mexicano (one my staple spots for anyone who comes to visit), check out the art scene in down town Phoenix, visit all of the cute antique stores in mesa and go to some of my favorite parks in the area. Then, because we’re both obsessed with movies, I’d wrap up our time together at Harkins Camelview or the Harkins CINE GRILL for an elevated Ultimate Moviegoing experience. Breakfast and brunch would be skipped because we like to sleep in, haha.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out three of the most important figures in my life that I dedicate this too!
To my husband, McCloud – Without you there is no me. You have been and will continue to be the best risk I’ve taken in all of my life. Thank you for the unwavering support, for keeping it ten toes down, and for loving me as I am each day. Giving you, and Binx, a tight squeeze! Love you. Always.
To my sister, Sana – You know that every single thing I do is to show you that no dream is too far out of reach. Thank you for giving me the title of “Big Brother”, thank you for inspiring me with how hard you work, and most of all thank you for staying by my side even when I felt like a failure. I love you until the wheels fall off. And then some.
To God – I can only imagine what you’ve written out for me that I have yet to encounter. Thank you for blessing me with the strength in faith, thank you for the path you’ve put me on, and thank you for guiding me tirelessly through the peaks and valleys. Inshallah.
