We had the good fortune of connecting with Niy Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Niy, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I try to find inspiration in everything. It’s cliche to say by “learning something new everyday”- but I really believe that all things have value. I try to find God in everything.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My name is Niy I am a Phoenix based creator and the owner of Niysthings. I sell Jade Buddha pendants, poetry, and other things. I have a passion for any type of art really. I feel like I would be doing a disservice to myself by keeping all of my creative thoughts inside. I’ve dabbled with many things like poetry, clothing, painting, etc. I’m always looking to try new outlets. It’s like once I have something in my mind I think of what ways I can execute it and I have to do it. People typically like my work and ask me to make them things so I figured why not capitalize. I was constantly complimented and asked about my jewelry – particularly my Buddha necklace and there are almost no places to buy Jade here. I would have to travel each time I wanted a new piece. I decided to buy a few and test out selling them and that is what started Niysthings.

I have been a seller for many years. Originally I recreated fashion branded as CandyPaint which entailed of globally distributed destroyed denim, hats, shirts and more. I also have a published work of poetry titled Insight which gives a small peek into my universe.

It’s not easy for entrepreneurs- especially on startup. My sister tells me all the time “Scared money don’t make no money.” And even though she is joking I know the underlying message there is to invest in myself – to invest in my business. I think taking the risk of spending the money on your business, putting in the work, and giving it your best all definitely play a big role but are so worth it in the grand scheme of things when you begin to see the return on your investment.

One thing I’ve learned is work life balance. “All grind and no sleep.” is definitely not something I can get behind. I respect the hustle but it’s really hard to pour into anything if your cup is empty. If you need a break or a nap- take it. I am all for self care. I feel like I put out my best work when I feel well.

My main goal is to spread a little light to someone else. If any of my products can serve that purpose I am grateful. I move with integrity. I work really hard to make sure the energy I am putting into Niysthings is honest and loving. I try to transmute this energy to my customers. I love them. Seeing them wear my pieces everyday or even sharing my post is really touching. That’s what success is to me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Pemberton is one of my favorite places so we’d have to go there. One of my friends Kevin has a really cool store on 16th street at the Hive called Not a Myth.
I would make them take a yoga class from Brianna the Moon Goddess.
Brunch at First Watch.
Any Teppanyaki place for dinner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank anyone who has ever purchased from me, come to my events, or reposted/liked/shared my content. My friends and family. Shoutout to the people who wear my pieces everyday. Thank you for your support and for believing in my business.
