We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Anzivine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My brand Makai Swim’s motto is “For the ones who take the risk…” so choosing to take the risk has always been a no brainer in my eyes! I encourage and welcome risks every single day in my personal and career life whether those risks are big or small! For me, risk taking means living outside of my comfort zone and embracing any opportunity for growth! I’ve learned to say yes more to new experiences, and this has made all the difference in helping me network with some awesome people, making great memories, and opening up doors I never would have imagined. It’s okay to be a little scared of new things sometimes, but by putting this fear to the side and going for it anyways you never know what’s out there waiting to be explored on the other side. I’ve always found myself to be empowered by taking a risk, trusting myself, and having faith in God. Comfort kills creativity, and in my opinion, it’s a lot scarier to stay in the same place and never grow than to dive head first into a new opportunity that could end up leading to something amazing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Makai Swim, we make swimwear for the soul searchers and the one’s not afraid to follow their dreams wherever they may take you! Our mission is to make everyone feel like their best, most inspired selves! We support body confidence and strive to make our customers feel beautiful and powerful in their own skin. Our goal is to encourage girls to never stop dreaming, while doing it in style! Our brand was built off a passion for travel, fun, spontaneity, and fashion. Makai Swim was born from our aspiration to create a brand that embodies our lifestyle and mirrors our inner selves. It’s designed for those who dream big but also enjoy the small moments that enrich the journey. We invite you to embrace life, laugh frequently, and not take life too seriously.

Starting a business has not been the easiest career path someone can choose, but personally, it’s been the most fulfilling and rewarding. There’s always going to be highs and lows of your journey as an entrepreneur. It’s inevitable that things are going to go wrong sometimes, but there’s no such thing as failure unless you give up on yourself. I’ve come to realize that setbacks are just opportunities to pivot and keep it moving with an open mind. Being adaptable and optimistic has been key. This has not only helped me in the business world, but also in my personal life. It’s important to learn not be so caught up and tied down to “how” something is going to happen, but more of the “why.” You can’t always predict the challenges life throws at you, but you can always remember the “why” you started and “why” you keep going and what’re you’re going to do about it. Slow down, take a breath, and remember that the journey is the most fun part.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I would like to shout out my sister and business partner, Noelle Anzivine. Ever since we were little girls, we’ve had plans to start a business together and build an empire. I’m grateful that I get to live life with her and chase our wildest dreams together until the wheels fall off! No one has been by my side quite like my sister who’s been there since the very beginning and has gone through every season with me. Whether it’s starting a business, starting a podcast, traveling the world, or just going with me to the grocery store, she’s my go to. Having a sister and someone you can trust no matter what has been the biggest blessing in my life.She’s my person, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the entire world. I would also like to thank my parents for believing in even my craziest ideas and encouraging me to live life to the fullest. I would be nothing without the support and love from my family. Thank you for never telling me that something is impossible, being right next to me in every chapter of my life, and loving me unconditionally. Without the support of them, I would be nowhere.
