We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been very tuned in to both the world around me and my inner emotional experience. When I was younger, I didn’t know what to do with all of that. I became consumed by performing arts by the time I was six, and it was a major blessing to have an outlet for expression at such a young age. In that way, I think an artistic career sort of pursued me. Down the line, writing and visual art acted as coping mechanisms. Though there was a period of time when being so in tune got out of hand and led to periods of isolation or destruction, learning to have healthy outlets for all of my energy has come with time and experience.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First and foremost, I am clairvoyant. It hasn’t been an easy road to uncover that, and even when I did it still wasn’t easy. It’s hard to see things clearly sometimes, it’s painful when you know the truth and you see lies for what they are. But it is my fuel for creating art. Having a clear vision about the world around me is not something that I can just casually throw into conversations anymore because I don’t want to constantly trigger people and deal with the aftermath of that. I’ve done that plenty of times, and it usually doesn’t help the situation. So, I’m learning to hold my cards close to my chest and instead channel that energy into creating art that is rooted in truth. A gift of mine is the ability to communicate with anyone. It might be a Gemini thing, or a psychic thing, but I am usually able to tell how I can share a message with someone in a way that it will really land for them. But the more I do that, the more I realize it’s kind of exhausting to keep modifying my pure truth to make it palatable to an individual listener. So my goal as an artist recently is to just say the truth exactly how I see it. It might anger some people, but the ones who get it, get it. And that’s who I’m making art for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dark Hall coffee would be the first stop. I’m obsessed with all of their drinks, vegan pastries and patio. Especially if its a beautiful spring day. It’s also pretty convenient how the best vegan brunch in town is right next door at the Coronado. If it was a nature loving friend (which I think is all my friends) I might also take them to the plant cafe Pueblo. I love a chill spot where we can hang out and draw or I can serenade them with my guitar. Then we’d do something outdoors, provided it’s not July or something. I like to hang out by the Salt River, hike South Mountain or the Superstitions…or if it’s a week, my favorite trails are in Sedona, so we would make the trip up there for sure.
I’d also have to hit The Nile, they always have great punk shows. AZ Wildnerness is high up on my list for a good beer hang by the fire.
I’m a big walker, so there would be a lot of that. There are so many hidden gems in Phoenix, so much cool art and a ton of interesting people. I sort of just follow the vibes and I think any one of my friends would be down for a spontaneous journey.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my incredible network of friends and collaborators in Phoenix and across the globe. I’ve been so lucky to connect with people all over the world through my travels and through making art and music. In Phoenix, specifically, I’m grateful to my bestie Bry who runs Sketch Club Cafe, which is a non-profit organization that creates the space for artists to connect and create together. It was because of the support from SCC that my former project Sun and Moon was able to play our first big show. Connecting with humans is the reason I make music. As a longtime concert-goer myself, I’ve always been tapped into the way that music brings a crowd to the same frequency for a while. I want to continue to create frequencies infused with love, compassion and friendship, because those are my core values. I want to be able to provide that for others and inspire them to create as well.
