Meet Patricia (Trish) Connelly | MSAc, Dipl Ac (NCCAOM), LAc

We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia (Trish) Connelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia (Trish), we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For many years I suffered with ongoing illness. By the time I was in my 30’s I had already had a stroke and my health was declining rapidly. I was on 13 medications and yet nothing Western medicine did was helping me. I had finished my bachelors in psychology and my teacher advised me to go do Student of the day tour at SCNM. While I was there I had my first experience with seeing acupuncture. Then gentlemen that was receiving treatment was in his 80’s and like me suffered with chronic illness. I was able to stay in the room with him during his treatment and he shared with me how Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture) gave him back his quality of life. I was so intrigued that the next day I went for a tour at the Phoenix Institute of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. As I toured the school the energy of healing was drawing me in and I had to know more. The more I learned the more I realized that I wanted to become an acupuncturist. I love people and I understand the struggles of chronic illness. I wanted to be able to help people heal without also harming them. I continue to add more modalities of alternative medicine to my treatments so that I am able to help my patients have optimal wellness and enjoy life to the fullest. I also have been blessed by the field of medicine I am in. I only take two medications now and the rest I am able to treat with acupuncture, cupping, low level laser therapy and Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is the compassion I have for people and the dedication I give to ensure that they heal. I am super excited that I am finally certified to do Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy. It was not easy to get where I am today. Due to my autoimmune diseases I suffered dearly in school with chronic illness. To become an acupuncturist it is a four year masters and over 1,000 hours of clinical training and then after I graduated there was the boards. There are three boards that must be passed and they are intense! I was able to overcome all of my challenges because of my faith, husband, family, instructors, classmates, and friends. I had an amazing support system. I have learned that I must remember to take care of myself too. I am a giver and I give with everything I have but in the beginning I forgot to take time to take care of myself to and I was working seven days a week. As a healer this is simply too much. I must take time to recharge so that I am able to be healthy too. I want the world to know that the body has to heal in all three areas, mind, body, and spirit. If only one areas is being addressed the other two will suffer and the body will not heal. I want everyone to know that my brand is healing mind, body, and spirit so that my patients are able to live and enjoy life to the fullest!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was visiting Phoenix I would take them to the Grand Canyon and do a float down the Colorado River. I would also take them to Williams so that we could go to the Deer Farm, Bearizona, and the Canyon Adventure Park. We would also go to Butterfly Wonderland. I love nature and I would want them to see all things beautiful in Arizona.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send a shout out to my heavenly father and my husband, the instructors and Paula at PIHMA, Dr. Shu, Dr. Wong, and Mrs. Shu, my beautiful father in law (God rest his soul), all the amazing family and friends who volunteered to come in for me to treat them while I was in school. All those who share what I do and refer friends and family to me. I am so beyond grateful for all my amazing patients who trust me to care for them. I am thankful for Healing Edge, Tri Chiropractic, and Meridian Integrative Medicine.
