We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Hidalgo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paulina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

To be honest I didn’t think too much about it, one day I said, “I’m going to book my first customer” and I did. I had thought about it once or twice 2 years before that, but that was really it. It was more of “can i really do this?” And I said “yes I can”.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My professional career revolves around the Planning and Development of Cities, which really has nothing in relation to my business. Considering I am still a young professional, I don’t have an enormous amount of experience but I have worked for Maricopa County’s planning and development department and I currently work for the City of Phoenix Planning and Development department in their Sign Section. I am a Sign Inspector/Reviewer. I am still in the pathway to obtaining my bachelors Degree in Urban Planning.

I have learned to do things at my pace and learned that I am the only one who will know what works best for me. Society and family really play a big role in putting in the pressure of what we “should” be doing at what age and what we need to have already accomplished.

What I would like for people to know about me is that I am a hard worker, and that I do what I enjoy.

Something that really means a lot to me is the sacrifice my parents made to come to the US from Mexico to give us a “better” life. I know for a fact that I have definitely been fortunate to have so many resources and opportunities to help become the best version of myself. And because of that sacrifice I am absolutely trying to make the most of it.

Also, always do things when you’re ready but also always take risks. We will never be 100% ready for anything because there will always be that “what if” when it comes to things we have never done before. But learn from everything and grow from it as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first place I would take them to is to visit the Grand Canyon and other nature scenic places. I would also take them camping around flagstaff or Payson. On our way down we would stop at Sedona and enjoy their red rocks walking around their downtown areas. Once we are back in town (Phoenix) I would take them to enjoy our Phoenix Art Museum, or any Gallery that is in town, right now we have the Van Gogh Exhibit going on and we would go eat at Majerle’s.

Another day can be attending a baseball game to watch the D-backs play, I would probably go eat before the game to Harumi Sushi which is Downtown.
I really enjoy checking out sporting events of all kinds. I enjoy going to Oreganos also, will probably take them there.

During those days we would hit up Taco Boys on 7th street and Roosevelt. Catch some coffee at Lux coffee shop on Central and Campbell.

And we would probably just cruise around the city, check what cool spots we find.

I really enjoy the City of Phoenix especially with the new development that is going on that we get to enjoy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
-I would like give some credit to my family, my parents and sisters. They have definitely been of great support by being that extra pair of hands when I need the help. -My boyfriend for supporting me and telling me I can do anything because I am a hard worker.

-The small group of friends I hang out with, they share my content and also send me ideas that can help me.

-And precisely one of my boyfriends aunts. She has encouraged me to do this even before I considered it becoming a reality.
