We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachelle Heinzen-Ruchty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My real life was a police officer for almost 20 years. Once I retired I got my real estate license and starting working for myself. I quickly forgot about the typical 9-5 job and fell in love with being my own boss! I love the flexibility, the risk, the creativity, and mostly celebrating successes and occasional failures. There is nothing more gratifying than stepping back and saying, I did that! When deciding to start Arizona Vacation Concierge LLC, my thought process has always been positive and how can I move forward. I think I am prone to taking risks. I have not thought about failure, I only think about the possibilities. That is what drives me.

What should our readers know about your business?
We provide on-site personal vacation concierge services to those traveling to Arizona for vacation. We pride ourselves in getting to know the client, finding out what their vacation dreams are, and then doing the planning for them so they can sit back and enjoy their vacation. We worry about the details so they don’t have too. Arizona has one of the leading short term rental markets and people travel here to play in our sunshine. We do not consider ourselves party planners or event planners, but more of your personal concierge. We work closely with other vendors to tailor our services to meet the needs and expectations of your perfect vacation!

We are a new business and breaking into the market. We are excited to learn and work with others in the short term rental market industry. We love to support local small business and believe that bringing people together for a common goal is what community is all about.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One thing is for sure I LOVE everything about Arizona! My husband and I relocated her full time in 2016, from Washington State. We love the sunshine, the people, the activities, and oh did I mention the weather! I am obsessed with the Superstition Mountains and any outdoor activity to be honest. We would definitely go to the Goldfield Ghost Town in Apache Junction, to watch a shootout in town and to see he majestic Supes! I think that kayaking or paddle boarding the Salt River to see the wild horses should be on every persons bucket list! A ride on the Dolly Steamboat on Saguaro Lake is a fun way to waste away a day. Did I mention the hiking? Camelback Mountain, Usery Pass, Flat Iron, Peralta Trail, Piestewa Peak for sunset (don’t forget your headlamp for the trip down!) I love the Phoenix Zoo in December. Barrett Jackson car auction, The Phoenix Open, The Cactus Reining Classic, NASCAR, and the baseball!!! There is nothing better than sitting outside at a ballfield, under the lights, in the grass watching your favorite spring training team, when it’s 80 degrees outside!! Pure heaven. One of my favorite places to eat is any of the restaurants in the Heritage District in Gilbert. So many fun choices to choose from! I also love the restaurants along the canal in Old Town Scottsdale.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has been my biggest cheerleader for over 20 years. He has encouraged me, motivated me, pushed me to always do or try new things. When I didn’t feel confident about my abilities, he would always ask me what do I have to lose. He has encouraged me to apply for promotions, try new physical activities like Triathlon or SUP, and more recently is ready to stand by my side to help me with my new vacation concierge business. He has taught me that it is ok to get dirty, if you don’t try you will never succeed, failure is not an option, and to do all things with 100% effort. I appreciate his constant support and his belief in me.
