We had the good fortune of connecting with Raiya Iverson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raiya, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The American culture is one of the few in the world who don’t readily take care of their dying. Earthside hopes to help tip the scales by training people to care for the dying and their loved ones. By having this additional, non-medical, compassionate support and companionship, it can help people to easier navigate the end of life transition by encouraging a beautiful and far less scary experience.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Earthside Holistic provides a learning environment for teaching and certifying End of Life Doula’s. We are a non-medical entity of end of life care, much like a Doula in childbirth, providing all kinds of different support. What sets us apart are things such as Earthside’s motto: “collaboration, not competition”. This motto explains that we fully support all certifying End of Life Doula programs, as well as other End of Life Doula’s, as we strive to inform our communities that this profession exists and that help is available during their End of Life transition.
Earthside also believes in paying it forward and gives discounts to Single Mothers and Veterans, as well as providing sliding scale and payment plans, because we want anyone who wants to be and End of Life Doula to have that opportunity.
We also have an Earthside Angel Donation Fund that collects donations so that a Single Mother or Veteran can take the course at no cost.
Earthside is also one of the only programs that requires their students to donate 80 hours (2 full weeks) to End of Life care/tasks. This can be anything from direct client care, to helping cook meals or even helping clients understand end of life documents such as an Advanced Directive. Every client will have different end of life needs. We feel this volunteer time is an important component to the learning process and helps our students feel more confident and prepared when they begin caring for clients on their own.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Earthside recognizes and wants to give loving props to all of our students who have put in the effort of learning and providing care to those in the End of Life Community! We Love You!!
