We had the good fortune of connecting with RayAnne Quenga and Chelsy Orina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RayAnne and Chelsy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting the We Shouldn’t Say That podcast was very spontaneous, however it was the one of the best decisions we’ve made this year. Growing up, people would constantly compliment our humor and story-telling. Many of our family members would seek our stories, knowing it would somehow make them laugh. Because of this, we’d always say “we should start a podcast,” as a joke. It was an idea in the back of our heads for a while, until when in late May, someone had proposed the idea of producing the podcast for us. Unfortunately, our schedules did not align with that person, so we took matters into our own hands and began to learn how to produce it ourselves. So, we did research, bought the supplies, and started recording in early July.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
All three of us have different stories, however the unifying factor was our upbringing. We all live in Arizona, but come from islands thousands of miles away from us. We all feel culturally separated, however using this platform we are able to connect with it more. Overall, we’re excited to bring attention to problems that people similar to us face, as well as make a community where everyone gets to talk. This podcast is not only an outlet, but a platform to raise awareness about topics that are important to us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tempe Town Lake is a memorable spot for us, since it’s where Aloha festival is held. Aloha festival is an event we try to attend every year, since it has the best food, items, and allows us see family members we aren’t able to see often. In addition, when Aloha fest isn’t there, it’s the best place to skate and rent the bird scooters.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to shoutout our family and friends for pushing us to start in the first place. Not only are they our number one fans, but they’re our number one motivators. There have been countless people who have given us advice, helped us with equipment, and listened to our stories.
