We had the good fortune of connecting with Raymond Clayton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raymond, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“If you have a dream. Chase it.” I feel like that has been the motto for my life. I have always had a passion for music which gave me the fuel to find a way to turn what I love into a career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For me being an artist that is 32 years old I have watched how trends/genres have changed and evolved. I feel like seeing this has helped because to me everything is in somewhat of a cycle. For example, a lot of music you hear today has samples from older songs just with an updated sound. I think seeing this helps me separate myself by not focusing on creating music that fits in specifically with the same music you hear daily, but instead you get to listen to something that is timeless. It has been very difficult at times using this approach mainly because people won’t be expecting what you have to offer. That is what I have learned to use as my advantage. I want the world to know that a boy from Compton, California who moved to Wisconsin and never lost his burning passion for music. He overcame obstacle, after obstacle, but now he is finally ready to spread his wings and show you that even the underdog is supposed to get a chance to fly too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being new to the Valley I would be using google to read reviews of local spots that sound like something I would be interested in. I am currently working at The Saltmine Studio Oasis in Mesa, so I would take them there because the tour is an amazing experience, and I would like them to see where I spend my time. I also enjoy photography so walking through downtown looking for paintings, sculptures, and murals would be on the list. Then while we were out the search would be on for the most authentic Mexican food. If I had a special someone coming to visit, I would probably try to plan a dinner in Scottsdale because I do enjoy an occasional fine dining experience and Scottsdale has many options available. Other than that, off the top of my head I know I would want to catch a sporting event and maybe grab a couple of drinks after.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say I would not be where I am if it wasn’t for my friends and family back home. There were times when things looked like they couldn’t get any worse, but they never gave up on me. I must give thanks honestly to the little city in Wisconsin called Eau Claire because that’s where I learned to be who I am today. In honor of the city, I actually took the E.C. which is the abbreviation and used it for the acronym for my production company Executive Class Productions, and also my graphic design company which is Executive Class Designs.
