Meet Rebekah Hibbert | Director of Sports Medicine, Spooner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Hibbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebekah, what do you attribute your success to?
In the world of sports medicine, it is easy to become competitive but the only way to build a successful brand is to be collaborative. That can be a lot more difficult as it requires individuals to drop their ego, understand there is always something to learn, and that no one can do it alone. Athletes require a team to take care of them, they want to know that everyone has their best interest as the center of their care, and you cannot do that without collaboration amongst sports medicine professionals. What we are building with the Spooner Sports Medicine brand is one that collaborates with and values the role of not just the athlete we are working with, but all the sports medicine professionals in their network. It is the only way a sports medicine brand can truly be successful in everything that it does.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I have learned about myself, even more so over the past 3-5 years, is that I am a connector. I think for a long time I assumed that other people were able to connect with others in the way that I do but I am realizing it may come more naturally to than others. I think a lot of that has to do with growing up as a pastor’s kid and then working in athletics, in both of these situations you have to learn quickly how to work and connect with people of different backgrounds and experiences, which I think has made me a bit of a chameleon. I have become extremely passionate about putting that skill to more specific use by creating Women in Sports Medicine Networking events that allow more women to connect with each other. Let me tell you, working in sports medicine as a woman is not always easy and we need all the support we can get!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I could give them a full list of cocktail bars but I would definitely say go to Valentine’s and Bitter and Twisted. Enjoy ALL of Roosevelt Row.
Hit up OHSO Arcadia for outdoor sitting and beers
Eat Taco Boys
Even if you don’t want to hike at least go check out Papago Park for a hike/walk around the area
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have helped me, mentored me, and encouraged me along the way. I am extremely blessed to have a super supportive family. I have been very lucky to be around people who believe in me. In particular to what we are building at Spooner I am lucky to have a boss, Julianne Brandt, who takes the time to build this program and vision with me, to challenge me and support me through the process. I am VERY lucky to work with the clinicians at Spooner who have supported this vision and program and are on the ground helping me make this grow. I also got very blessed to meet Brett Fischer when I first started my role who didn’t need to take me under his wing but did and has encouraged the growth of this program from day one.
