Meet Rene Rivas | Film Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rene Rivas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rene, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think for me personally, the main importance of the brand that I’m building is consistency. Continually producing content while remaining true to the artistic integrity and putting forth quality versus quantity

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my pursuit of writing and directing, it hasn’t been easy but has been challenging since the get-go. Since incorporating and starting my production company in 2015, to keep a roof over my head the client production pursuit has been there the whole time. But where my heart is set is telling short and future narrative stories, mainly in the horror genre. I do have ambitions to tell other stories in other genres such as thrillers, drama, and even westerns. But at this point in my career, horror film storytelling is where I’m focusing my energy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Interesting, well living in the small northern Arizona community of Flagstaff, it can be limited but also very diverse in various activities pertaining to your interests. From hiking, to go to the Grand Canyon, to camping in the woods, going on a river trip, or even heading downtown for your favorite cup of tea. Me personally, I enjoy frequenting used entertainment stores, thrift stores antique stores, and heading to the local movie House to catch a film.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For me personally, in my respective career pursuits. It wouldn’t be a book, it wouldn’t be an organization, but it would be the film directors that I look up to, John Carpenter, Steven Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick, John Hughes, and more contemporary directors such as Ari Aster, Mike Flanagan, Ti West etc
