We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhodes Blake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rhodes, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I often view risk as a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can lead to great rewards and opportunities, but on the other, it can result in failure, regret, loss, and setbacks. Life is all about taking risks you won’t know the outcome if you don’t go for what you want. If it wasn’t for me taking a risk and betting on myself I wouldn’t be a wedding photographer and be a part of capturing the memories for someone’s best day ever. Some people are naturally more risk-averse, preferring to play it safe and stick to what they know. Others are more willing to take risks, seeing them as opportunities for growth, learning, and advancement. I am more on the willingness to take risk side, all of it comes from my childhood living and growing up in a 3rd world country and all the things I’ve been through. I’ve taken some risks that did not work out, but I have never regretted those because all of it was a lesson learned. I learned a long time ago to view all and a situation through the lens of faith instead of fear.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my photography business by accident. I started taking pictures for friends and family and I fell in love with it, one thing led to another and I started a photography business. It was extremely difficult because I knew nothing about running a photography business and my previous business had failed after one year of being open. So I was afraid to put time and money into another business venture that I knew nothing about. I decided to focus on what could be instead of what it was and not focus on my fears. I read tons of books, invested in education, got a few mentors, watch youtube videos, and joined different groups that were like-minded and I surrounded myself around people that had the same goals. My brand is all about seeing the beauty in the everyday things that we take for granted. I may never know the darkness or hardships that my couples or families go through behind closed doors, but I make it my goal to capture the beauty of their story.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Sedona, Flagstaff anywhere and everywhere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom deserves all the credit because if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. She always gave her absolute best no matter what.
