We had the good fortune of connecting with Rob Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rob, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Im not sure who said it but one of my favorite quotes says “Your emotions may trigger you into action, but your vision is what will sustain it.” What this quote means to me is that you cant trust your emotions. Sometimes your up sometimes your down sometimes you feel like doing something sometimes you dont. so because our feelings can be misleading we have to lean on something more firm which is our Vision. When you have a vision for something it has the ability to motivate you into action even when you dont feel like it or its inconvenient. I like this quote bc I think its something we all can relate to.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m currently in the process of finishing my new album entitled “Highly Elevated. It came about in a very organic way. I’m really proud of this project and excited to release it to the world because Its a culmination of thoughts and events that I’ve wanted to share for along time Highly Elevated means so many different things to me. A person can elevate spirtually, mentally, physically etc… and I speak on all those different forms of elevation. As we evolve as people there are certain life events that are more life changing than others, but ultimately these are the things that shape us into who we are. With this project I took 13 of those life changing events and turned it into art. My brand is called Conscious Luxury Rap. CLR for short. I try to give gems in my music and aways give my listenters something they can apply to everyday life. For that reason I feel its valuable and thats why I consider it luxury rap. I’ve had challenges and setbacks just like everyone else but its outlook that determines whether we use it to push us forward or pull us down. I was born with a hole in my heart. One valve was too small, the other was too wide. This congenital heart defect is called Tetrology of Fallot. This is also the same condition that Jimmy Fallon’s infant son was born with. I’ve spent my entire life having to make sure that I stay in good health and maintain a somewhat decent physique. Because of this, I created a non profit called Open Heart 4 Hiphop. With open heart 4 hiphop we use music (all kinds) as a conduit to spread our message about heart health and the importance of eating right and also diet and exercise. It’s important for me as an artist to share all of this with the world. As cliche as it sounds I know I was put here to motivate and inspire, even if it’s one listener at a time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m sure it’s been said many times before me but I would have to take my friend to 1st Friday to experience the art and culture that’s on display. Since I’m originally from the east coast and we don’t have In and Out, Jack in the Box, Habit Burger, or my personal favorite Cheba Hut I would take them to visit each one. I enjoy hiking so that would be a must as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people were instrumental in my success but it was the books and teaching that helped me change my mindset to become a better person.
